@finfan I was shocked to see your rating here, though I understand - it's a movie that has gathered a lot of hate through the years from Alien fans. This is actually one of my favourite sci-fi movies of all time (I keep going back to watch it every now and then) and my most scrobbled movie here on Trakt. The thing is, I went to see this movie for the first time without remembering much from the Alien franchise. So, I just watched for what it was to me: a sci-fi movie. I still don't recall much of the Alien movies to this day (haven't bothered to rewatch them), so I cannot comment on whether this fits the franchise nicely or not but, purely as a sci-fi movie, I honestly believe it's one of the most solid offerings of the genre we had in the last decade. From the cinematography to the soundtrack, everything is so perfect! Engaging visuals, engaging story, engaging acting, the suspense was managed gracefully and was always on point... I just cannot get enough from this movie! I know I'm rambling a lot, but it's just a normal response triggered after seeing the rating and reading the comment made by someone who's opinion I value around here.
Oh, and Covenant, on the other hand, was a movie I found to be a big, juicy, steamy pile of poo (I've only watched that one once and fell asleep halfway through).
Prometheus will always have a special place in my sci-fi heart.
@misnomer First off, thanks for the compliment. As for the movie: I am in agreement regarding the technical aspect. Very good production. But I really was dissapointed with the story. As you said you didn't remember much from Alien(s). On the other hand I was waiting for this movie for a long time to explain the background of the franchise. I had high expectations that weren't met. The rating reflects a lot of that as it is certainly not a typical "4" movie. I felt a little bit angry to get lured into this movie under false pretense. I can't see it any other way.
Same later with Covenant which I rated even lower. You can read my comment there if you like. I seldom give ratings below five. It mostly happens when I was dissapointed or a movie is really, really awful. In any case it is always a personal perspective.
I do understand why you like it, though.

Just finished it. Feels like someone got me a pretty wrapped present which turnes out to be completly empty. I thought this was supposed to explain things instead it left more questions which I believe Scott intents to follow up on the sequel(s). because if there won´t be any this was a tremendous waste.
