I didn't find the premiere that funny. But this episode, on the other hand, got a few laughs out of me.
Love this program - a slow burn, darkly surreal reality vampire show.
I wonder if Nadja’s donkey-burning would add to or reduce her carbon footprint?
Not as funny as the premiere
Very very funny , The Energy Vampire is awesome ...
City council was a perfect episode as it helped moved the plot forward and got some pretty good comedy that made me burst out laughing super hard.
The first shot of the episode was exceptional because I could instantly recognize my college campus. I probably should not have looked too deep into it because it ruined the show's immersion of it being set in Staten Island; maybe it would've been awesome if the plot was set in Toronto. :smirk:
But in all seriousness, it is a good episode, and I had a fun time.
Really liked the first episode, but this one sold me on the show. Love it.
I like it. So frrrrrrrrrresh

[7.3/10] I liked this one a little bit better than the pilot. WIth less introduction to do, the show can just start giving stories and shtick to its characters, which helps let the talents of the performers shine through. There’s a lot of Christopher Guest-style mockumentary talking heads segments that got a laugh out of me -- particularly the bit about The Baron giving orders while en flagrante. And the setup of our heroes trying to take over the world by starting with the...Staten Island City Council, is the right blend of the supernatural and the mundane that powers the humor of this show.
Despite that, I think my favorite plot in the episode was the one with Nadja and Jenna. There’s something enjoyable about Nadja seeing Jenna as put-upon and marginalized by the LARPing group and wanting to help her. The juxtaposition between Nadja wanting Jenna to be able to “shit on the graves of her enemy” and Jenna just taking it as the usual college turbulence is a nice way to wring comedy out of the two talking past each other. And Jenna misconstruing her being turned into a vampire as just a bit of collegiate sexual experimentation is a laugh. (And Guillermo being shocked to learn that someone else got turned into a vampire was a nice touch.)
But Nandor and Lazlso’s rivalry (and trash talking) over who’s got the better plan to take over the City Council brought some yuks too. Nandor’s face-to-face with the head of the council was delightfully awkward, and his pile of racoon carcasses and her reaction to it got a big laugh out of me. At the same time, Nandor turning the rival council member into a raving lunatic spouting end of the world prophecies was a solid bit too. The way that both of their plans failed in amusingly outsized ways worked for me.
I continue to get a kick out of Colin Robinson’s energy vampirism, as a city council meeting is the perfect venue for him, and his deadpan boringness is quite funny.
Overall, this was a firm improvement on the first episode, with more bits that I found conceptually funny than laughed out loud at, but it’s moving in the right direction.
