Ikuhara’s expert use of symbolism weaves an intriguing web of allegories about stigma, exclusion, intolerance, convenience, and pride while constantly tugging at the underlying mysteries, revealing many nuances about the characters in a way that leaves them well fleshed-out and experiencing substantial growth throughout the show’s run. Whilst this might have limited appeal due to its niche qualities, if you’re at all a fan of Ikuhara’s other works or yuri stories in general, then I implore you to check this one out. Take my score with a grain of salt though - this is basically a culmination of everything I love in a single series. It's my personal quintessential anime, and certainly not one for everyone.
