[6.8/10] Let’s start with the big positives here. The Flesh Monster is creepy as hell, both visually and conceptually. A big morass of limbs and eyes with faces bursting forth is the stuff nightmares are made of. Likewise, the concept of unneeded meta teens being conglomerated into the same girthy monster is psychologically unnerving. It makes the fight that much more challenging, since one big asset on the side of the bad guys isn’t actually a bad guy.
I also enjoy the comedy of trapping Klarion in Fate’s tower. And the idea of not all meta teens fitting into the framework the heroes have set up is a good one, with the introduction of a young hero who grows gills when transformed. (And the prospect of her going through an already traumatic experience and then suffocating is horrifying).
But I found a lot of this annoying. Klarion was super annoying to me here. I’m not sure why. I’ve enjoyed him enough in his prior appearances. But maybe it’s just him constantly talking to his cat and his whiny tone that gets grating after too much exposure.
Likewise, I’m slowly but surely becoming exhausted by Beast Boy. He has such a self-righteous, sanctimonious tone every time he talks about the good The Outsiders are doing. I get what they’re trying to do, but he sounds like a smug, overager college freshman, and it’s the one note they play for him so far.
The actual battle is fine. Again, the flesh monster is cool, and it’s nice to have zatanna back in the fold, if only for an episode.
I’m intrigued by the Violet story, but a little weirded out by the execution. Violet finding out that she has months to live is jaw-dropping, and would certainly change a person. But her drinking, cheating on Brion with Harper, and shooting a gun feel like too much too fast for such a wholesome and provincial character. I take that to be the point given the diagnosis, but it’s jarring, and there's not enough connective tissue between her getting the news and her acting out. A lot of the plot points have come fast and furious this season, and this is another instance of that.
Oh, and Ed joining the team comes out of nowhere. It seems based on the idea that Ed needs to do something to inspire the kids at the metateen help center, but it comes out of nowhere without enough build.
Overall, not one of Young Justice’s finest hours, albeit one that still has some good ideas worth hanging onto.

I'm so tired of Victor yelling at everyone in every episode.
