Season 3 does not disappoint. Hope we get more seasons.
Wow, just wow. The same time it's disturbing, it's amazing. To think someone can actually do something like that amazes me. How far would you go?
Waiting a week for an episode is excruciating. The series is fast pasing, I´m loving it so far
Season 1 was great. Season 2 was good. Season 3 is dumpster fire.
If this was a decade ago the show would have ended up on Lifetime channel.
Imagine if Dexter had been written by a female millennial addicted to social networks. I watched 6 episodes before the obnoxious Joe, his more obnoxious inner voice, and the implausible situations got the best of me.
I'm honestly not sure how people are enjoying this show. From the creators of a few CW DC shows as well as a tenured CW writer/showrunner of a few seasons of Supernatural comes 'You', a show that had me asking myself why I was still watching nearly every minute and a half I had to pause the first episode.
'You', at least in the first episode, takes the 'Tell not Show' approach, rather than using the visual medium properly. Stilted performance after stilted performance on top of poorly written dialogue permeates every orifice of this boring incoherent mess of an hour. It really is obvious that the show was written for the Lifetime network originally, because it's about on par of what I'd expect from their offerings.
The visuals are primarily shot on anamorphic lenses, with untalented camera assistants missing focus left and right because the Director of Photography decided that being wide open with ND on every shot was a great idea for every situation. Bad visuals on top of an awkward score that has no purpose other than to accentuate the overbearing internal monologue of this show's 'Dennis Reynolds' of Always Sunny in Philadelphia.
Do yourself a favor and go watch the pilot episode of Dexter after this and tell me which you found more entertaining. I know which one I'll pick every time.
Damn it just end it man....
netflix sure loves to milk its series until the fan girls give up on it
Season 4? October 2022 and October 2023.
I loved this show! The first season is the best though. Once you start watching, its hard to stop. While the show is exciting and dramatic, I think what made it stand out to me was the uneasiness I felt because I found myself secretly rooting for Joe. It does a good job of making you internally confused on why you are cheering on a serial killer. Kinda like when you watch Dexter.
As someone who enjoys psycho thrillers and murder TV show this one did not disappoint this show is amazing and I'm glad it's getting a 5th season.
Nope its not like Dexter this actor and his speeches so silly compared to him :/
The censoring is fucking bad lol
Not saying that it was perfect but the whole first season in one day? Okay that means that there was something what was forcing me to continue. Joe's twisted mind is perfect and yup, this is how it usually goes with broken serial killers.. They are not bad guys, they're doing right things and decisions.. That's what I like about this tv series.. Joe thinks he's a good guy...
Season 1 is good 8/10 (Is a totally new experience in a tv show) (The finale is a bit dissapointed 6/10)
Season 2 9/10 (I wasn't expecting too much, but is a TOTAL Change of panorama in season 2)
Season 3 9/10 (season 3 doesn't disappoint, very good)
Ready for the next season.
In general 8/10
(Vague spoilers ahead, don't read this if you want to go in blind, but it won't ruin any specific plot points.)
I wonder, if in your pretentious style, you would write something this contrived, Beck. It's entertaining, for what it is,but at the same time, it isn't believable. I mean, the main character sounds like a ransom note made of equal parts red pill and white knight, and a sprinkling of serial killer manifesto. He gets a little more smoothed out, Beck, but the writing... It's the worst parts of how the world views mental illness, romanticization, mixed with the reminder that 'unwell' people are secretly dangerous.
It's sad, Joe would be an almost charming character... In fact, he is. He's a layperson's idea of what a serial killer is, Beck. The idea that the kind of sociopath that becomes a serial killer is a charmer, so much so that he'd go out of the way to save an abused kid... But what this really is, is the story of a charming, bookish guy who would make for a great protagonist, except then they stapled on the fact that he's an obsessive stalker, Beck.
There are two Paul Browns (that's a joke that requires watching pretty far in to get it, Beck), and that unsubtle cut to The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, I saw that Beck. How droll, haha. But that's the thing, that's what this is, Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, because Joe is our protagonist so he needs to have lovable bits somewhere, he needs to be romanticized, so we'll have him save a kid and make sure everyone he kills is just an awful enough person to never make you hate him; except that he's secretly 'Hyding' something. No one went into this asking 'what makes a stalker', they wrote a charming protagonist, and then asked 'how can we make this dramatic?'
I'll admit, it's not the worst, Beck. It's kind of fun to watch, in a bad Soap Opera kind of way. But in the end, it leaves a sour taste, the reminder that so much media cares nothing about doing its due diligence with mental health. They just want to make it sexy...
Abused becomes the abuser as we look at the story from Joes perspective to the reasons why he does what he does for love and how far would you go for love too?
This series is captivating really puts you on edge at first you think Joe is a psychopath stalker and killer, when he starts to follow Beck the woman that he meets in a bookstore and she immediately gives him her email address in a flirtatious way for herself while having a boyfriend already also known as Benji.
Joe starts to become obsessive checking social media for Beck finding people that will get in the way, like Becks Boyfriend who is a drug user plus drug dealer that he is a bit psychotic too, as well as we later found out he murdered a few people in cold blood where he kept a video documentation of it. Anyway, Joes way of dealing with Becks Boyfriend Benji is to lock him in a bookstore basement with the soundproof glass prison type room that is claustrophobic. We later find out after Joe was abused as a child by his parents the owner of the bookstore takes him in then becomes Joes only father figure who he loves dearly.
I start to feel sorry for Joe where we later find out that Joe got locked in the same basement when he was younger to teach him a lesson that just added onto his overall trauma thinking it is okay to lock people in basement for their own good that is obviously not, nevertheless the bookstore owner did it out of love for Joe. Cutting a long story short Joe kills Becks best friend Peach who is obsessed in love with Beck and would do nothing to single her out to have Beck to herself even booking flights to Paris, if you ask me, she reminds me of Joe in a way. They both keep documented evidence, Joe in a Box above his bathroom in the drop ceiling, where there is sentimental pieces like diaries, pictures, pieces of clothing, for example bra, underwear you get the picture, murder evidence like Benji’s teeth that he could not burn as the body could be easily identified by the cops. Peach kept digital documentation on her laptop for blackmail, like pornographic images of people who she has been obsessed with especially a lot of pornographic images with Beck on, therefore we are dealing with two people who will do anything to get Beck to love them.
We find out that Beck has Daddy issues which everything is a mess her Dad has practically a separate family, also Beck cheats on her past partners a lot while she persists on lying about it for herself, she even cheated on Joe with the therapist that she lied about continually as well. Joe has love for people like Beck he just sees it as protecting her, in addition this one kid in his building called Paco where the mother is also in a abusive relationship with a her boyfriend who is a parole board officer, we later find out that he knocks her about and the reason why she haves him back is that he could use his contacts to take Paco away.
Joe has a past relationship where Beck is determined to find out more details on a woman called Candace Stone, finding out that is not simple as she randomly leaves the country after having an affair behind Joes back with the record label producer to get signed up as a singer. Joe finds out confronts the record label producer killing him by pushing him of the roof years ago, where he learns how to cover it up and create a social media trail, so people think he committed suicide rather than just murdered linking it back to Joe. When it all comes to ahead Joe and Peach has a showdown of course Peach suspected Joe from the start especially after getting assaulted by her stalker in central park while out on a run, which eventually at Peach’s house she sees Joe and shoots him grazing him on the leg Joe plays dead with very little blood. After Peach goes up to him to make sure that the job is done Joe gets her on the ground while killing her with Peaches gun in kind of a mercy killing. Before this Peach and Joe had a convosation about keeping it a secret, so they both disagreed mainly Peach it either being Joe or Peach that was going to die obviously Peach in the end. Peaches death ruled as a suicide obviously Beck and Joe try to make it work until Beck dumps Joe for being overprotective and paranoid as I said earlier Joe was right and Beck did cheat on him with her therapist. Middle of this Joe has a steady Girlfriend then cheats on her with Beck, therefore eventually dumping her.
Private investigator turns up suspecting everyone thinking the death is a murder not a suicide of course he is right still trying to gather up evidence strongly suspecting Joe. After another forgiveness again Beck doing it all for herself with Daddy Issues, Beck finds the evidence after Paco said Joe said hiding objects in the drop ceiling above the bathroom is a great hiding spot for Paco’s Book, which Beck goes in there finds the evidence, Joe finds out she knows knocks her out as well before she escapes, locks her in the basement down to love for days while she was on a writing retreat her friends thought as Joe posed as her on social media saying that. Joe lets Beck out eventually where she stabs Joe with a type writer keys that are very sharp after kissing him to try to escape, Beck locks Joe in the glass prison, Beck tries to escape and there is extra fence after the basement door not letting her, she sees Paco asking him to let her out he does not say anything and leaves, Joe gets Beck down after opening with hidden spare keys, Beck hits him with a mallet, Beck attempts to use the keys then Joe mercifully in his eyes kills Beck.
The reason Paco did not help Beck is that before this Paco tries to steal gun from the bookstore stored under the counter desk and gets caught by Joes friend, which Joe takes the gun off him and convinces him not to kill the abusive parole officer. Later on, in the events Paco uses a weapon to whack his mother’s abusive boyfriend, he goes to lividly chase after Paco, where Joe sees this and stabs the Paco’s Mothers abusive boyfriend in the throat. Paco and Joe cover it up leaving a social media trail where his body is never found. This is mainly because Paco views Joe as a father figure when joe loves him like his own son that really humanises this relationship.
Becks Body gets planted by the Therapists work where the evidence is already written on a typewriter by Beck mentioning the therapist doing all of these horrific actions in place of Joe who actually did it more to appease Joe. The therapist gets arrested after the evidence is sent in anonymously, then goes down for it even though he is completely innocent, meanwhile no one suspects Joe. The whole trauma gets made into a book published with Becks name on by someone else to tell their story.
It just shows with past trauma people can think it is OK to do these horrific actions thinking they are justified like out of love; therefore, you cannot help but sympathise with Joe when he has been through a lot of abuse too when he was much younger age. Usually like with Joe the abused eventually becomes the abuser with reasons justified in his eyes some logical some illogical.
In conclusion I rate this a ten out of ten really leaves you on the edge of your seat, especially adding a twist on at the end where this female looking figure tuns up in the bookstore where Joe works, which it turns out to be the presumed dead girlfriend Candace Stoneeven. I wonder how that is going to play out, as I the reason she has visited after reading the news story on Beck I recon she knows about everything she does not look surprised at all, which suggest to me that she might even be a killer herself just knows you never know what is going through someone’s mind where everyone is capable off killing for their own reasons justified or not.
In addition to this conclusion I highly recommend this ten out of ten mystery series where you will not be disappointed if you watch it in your spare time. I really hope there is a season two of YOU as I really want to see how this plays out maybe Joe seeks a path of redemption who knows we will just have to wait to find out.
Joe is not a villain he is just an obsessed young man looking for a lover ...and BTW this movie taught me how to speak to my inner self and trust it has saved me a lot of times and made me feel comfortable but it has made me silent too more than the old me
Constantly on the edge of my seat, wondering what could happen next. You question every character and interaction - love the pacing and writing.
It's amazing how this show is able to make me root for someone who has killed multiple individuals, on purpose. Yet somehow this psychological romance story keeps me wanting for the main character to succeed in his horrible actions.
I have sort of mixed feelings on this. I absolutely loved the first season as I thought Beck was a great character and I thought the ending to that season was shocking and made me excited for the second.
However I found the second to be ok, same with the third - there were elements of great TV in there but it just didn't impact me as much as the preliminary season. The acting and storytelling did still remain stellar throughout however but still think the first season is the best.
Clearly this is NOT for me! I've rarely been so annoyed by a tv show.
When you think it couldn't get any crazier, booooooooommmmm. Who writes this shit? Wow, amazing.
I loved the first season, it's original, dark, and engaging and I'm giving it an 8/10.
Although, it could have been a 10/10 if the characters (especially Beck) were a bit more likable, and the end bit when Beck is trying to escape the basement but she's caught by Joe was so disappointing, it cuts away from what's happening (which is a pretty important and dark moment for these characters, and it should not have been shide away from, it should have been shown) and then it's suddenly 4 months later and she's dead and her therapist is being framed for her murder and Joe is releasing a book of her writing after her death?
This was all in the last 5 minutes of the season finale, and in my opinion all that could have made up a whole episode which I think I would have really enjoyed. The last episode of a season is always something I look forward to, but this just disappointed me.
It's clearly supposed to be a dark creepy show, and yet they cut away from the truly dark stuff which I think does the story and characters (and viewers) a disservice.
That said, the show was still entertaining, and Penn Badgley was brilliant, so I will be looking forward to a new season, and a new obsession for Joe, although, I will now have expectations that they will cut out the truly dark stuff.
UPDATE: SEASON 4: As I’ve been saying all along, this series is disturbing, as you see the world through the eyes of a psychopath. Season 3 has an incredible twist that brought the game to a new level and, in my mind, regained it its 8 (addictive tension) rating. This season, it found a new angle, entirely. Usually I see things coming before they are revealed. This twist was totally unexpected. I can’t not mention what a treat it was to have Charlotte Ritchie and Ed Speleers added to the cast. Brilliant writing, very dark and consistently addictive. One more season to go, what will they come up with?! I rate this series an 8 (addictive intriguing) out of 10. [Crime Mystery]
SEASON 2: I was curious about how they could reinvent themselves, feeling pretty sure we had seen all of the tools in Joe's bag of tricks. By this season we are desensitized to Joes' menace, and the drama has a more pedestrian feel, however, it ends with a delicious twist upon a twist. Not quite as good as the first season but still good viewing, I give this season a 7 (good) out of 10 and the series a 7.5. [Dramatic Crime Thriller]
SEASON 1: This is a "Should I?" or "Should I not?" kind of a series. From the pilot, we know the protagonist is definitely sociopathic, maybe even psychopathic. Is this an anti-hero we can get behind? But, there is just something about it that makes you want to watch one more episode... and then you find the first season is over! This is well written, well performed, addictive and, well, disturbing. I give the first season an 8 (addictive) out of 10. [Mystery Crime Thriller]
loved the show !! how can some people not like it !! must watch by my recommendation
One of the worsts shows ever produced by Netflix, too demanding, simply awfully.
Joe Goldberg is officially on my top 5 of the most terrifying villains on film. The Swede, Joan Furgasen, and Walter White.
The character is played perfectly!
A somewhat novel premise that turns into a tired shtick as the show progresses.
filming is set to begin in October/November 2020
Gripping thriller, loving it. Crazily creepy though!
This show breaks expectations. I LOVE that Joe's thought process is shown in important situations and that time doesn't just stop but other characters noticing how much time he sometimes needs to reply. As a character I just love Joe, though I am afraid about how many people romanticized him/his actions after season one and I think in season 2 he is even more "back'n'forth" between relatively decent and totally f'd up.
Season 2 sidenote
I also really LOVE Robin Lord Taylor as Will. I needed quite some time to recognize him fully, because I only knew him with black hair, I have to check if there is more with him in that I need to watch. :D
season 1 : 9/10
season 2 : 10/10 ( for me )
i literally didnt expected the climax which i saw in season 2 finale , story was more gripping than season 1 thats why i liked this season more , nd BTW season 3 is coming because it ended with a very much likely possibility
There's something wrong with every character in this show, and that really is a pivotal part as to why this show works so well. Specifically regarding Beck, the show would have had an entirely different tone if she was a perfect person. She has issues, not as bad as Joe,obviously but issues nonetheless.
The similarity in the toxic behavior of Peach and Joe is also interesting. How Joes inner monologue is criticising Peach for the exact same things that he does, he has no self-awareness. You always hate the people that reflect your own flaws, although this is mainly about being possessive though, which is something they both very much are.
Joe obviously has a savior complex. Going back to the whole thing about Beck being a flawed human. I think that was necessary for the whole thing to work seeing as Joe would basically have nothing to "fix" about her life if she didn't and the show wouldn't be nearly as eventful. It's weird though because he knew she was flawed yet would justify every mistake she made and blame it on other people which isn't surprising seeing as he was obsessed with her.
I know a lot of people don't like Beck, which is fair enough but I personally didn't find her as daft and annoying as some people did. Anything bad she did pales in comparison to Joe. Ultimately, she is a flawed human, like most are. Her friends are kind of crappy, the way she copes with things aren't the healthiest and her life is just kind of a mess. Just like a lot of people that age. I guess some people have an easier time hating on her because it's more relatable, more people can relate to being cheated on than having someone murder people you care about.
The show itself is really disturbing but the fact that some people are romanticizing Joe is even more disturbing. When we're hearing his thoughts justifying his behavior, ew what a creep, what a creep. I don't think there's anything redeemable about Joe as a character. His thoughts are really funny at times though, morbid but funny.
Season 2 will be interesting.
its a nice movie that teaches us how to be self controlled and solve our problems easily
it's a great series
One of my favourite comfort shows. It's so unrealistic and goofy, but the main characters is fun to watch and so delusional. It also doesn't shy away from the darker stuff. They can't stretch this out for much longer though.
The last seasons were boring. I have the sensation that Netflix does not know when to finish a story.
I really enjoyed this series but it has diminishing returns with each season. Season 4 is the worst yet. I really wish they would kill him off. He needs to pay the price of the life he has lived and the path of destruction left in his wake. Not sure I'll sit through another season to see him get his just desserts.
Had its flaws (too many "repeats" of the formula), but overall I really enjoyed it! Characters were (almost) all good and I espc enjoyed the twist in S4.
Huge fan of this show. Four seasons and still going strong. They tricked me! A few episodes into S4 and I thought: Joe seems like such a passenger this season... PLOT TWIST! HE IS! i don't think that counts as a spoiler. ;)
It's a fun show to watch. The idea is great (credit goes to the books), it won't blow your mind, but it's fun
After the horrific season 3, a boring 4th season. First half was ok 7/10 but second half is crap. Doesn't matter how much they try to bring other ppl in and give leading roles, JOE IS THE PROTAHONIST! Get it through your thick skull and maybe we get a season resembling the 9/10 first season. 5/10 for the b' part of S4
7/10 good, Season one
6/10 okay, season two
5/10 getting boring, season three
6/10 boring, season four
Started of great, but each season has basically become a rehash of the previous ones and each of the new characters become less and less likeable.
Season 4 was brave to try something new, move country and style of show.
Sadly the first halve of season 4 was dire and you truly wanted there to be one mass murdering spree at the posh club, with our murder flying away to pastures new as soon as possible….
The second part of season 4 was almost as bad, to the point I was ready to commit murder myself, but the final two episodes saved the whole thing.
It has left the show all set up for a possible rebirth with a whole new scope of reasons for murder, I would say another two seasons letting the new story evolve, keep the same love interest, get them married.
Then go out with a Big Bang in two seasons time we’re she kills him and then turns the gun on herself!!!!!!
This seasons have consistently gotten worse. Just please stop!
I really liked the first season but then it got too repetitive for me so i got lazy to go on, first season is like a 9/10 though
Watched all three seasons in about 2 weeks... WOW, great show!!!
It's kinda like Dexter, but it isn't at the same time.
Plenty of can and mouse twists and turns in seasons 2 and 3.. can't wait for season 4.
10/10
the emotions in the show feel so real, i'm not a huge fan of some of the dialogue though
Fu...ing amazing show, recommend to everyone. Joe is the man!
Many moments in this are completely unsettling. The horror aspects are not what I'm referring to. The idea that you can build empathy for your characters, unlikable, complex in their history, or misunderstood I think is well traveled territory. But this manages to highlight the intermingling of absurd creepiness (a term I'm pretty loathe to use given the era), and the very real overwhelming compulsions one can associate with attraction or love. Everything, absolutely everything, about Joe's character is beyond the pale in one direction or another, and yet as a whole, because he so consistently and earnestly portrays that furious void looking to be validated (again, our desperate era), you almost believe him and self-justifications. He's mocked against the most vapid stereotypes, so it's all the easier to fall under his spell. If you were to pair this casting and character ability with something like 13 Reasons Why you'd get ten times the number of dead teenagers.
The scenes got upwards, exciting to see the two last episodes.
The scenes got upwards, exciting to see the two last episodes.
I wish it ends with Season2 I have no energy left to watch another season.
Season2 in all sense is a perfect ending (happy) but the writers are intent to drag it into another killing spree and hopefully kill them all in Season3. From loving Joe in Season1 to hating greedy Will in Season 2.... He will never get Love
One of the best shows i have ever seen!!
Never been so thrilled!!Watched all ten episodes in a sit.Raw and intense characters.Hope they won't ruin season 2
Painfully hard-to-believe, but this train wreck in slow motion is still fun to skim-watch if only to see how the drama plays out. You're honestly better off sticking to the NoSleep Podcast for your fix of this genre of thriller.

It was hilarious! Shooting, story, plot twists, jokes. Just everything. My favourite for now.
so frustrating to see that Joe win at the end, although i can see Beck's ending from the last thirty minutes. It's kind of weird that i'm still wondering what will happen in S2. what really happened between Candace n Joe.
Takes me back to my lovely dexter days
Loving it
Good, but not great - change my mind. Have to admit doe, that season one was ended beautifully.
-This was me after finishing Season one.
Now I'm at season two, as I have heard from majority of viewers, they have been disappointed by part two, I can't agree because I'm still finishing it, but for now I'm fine with it - same as with season one, nothing to "wow" about, just a good series to browse in your Netflix library.
I'm not mad at Netflix's "You." 1st of all: Penn Badgley. 2nd: Penn Badgley.
In all seriousness: You is a fast-paced thriller with Gossip Girl-esque twists, turns and melodrama. Its tone, however, is darker and its themes are much deeper. You never quite reaches the necessary maturity level to comment intelligently on its subject matter and it requires great suspension of disbelief to buy into the story... way too much, on occasion.
It was a great surprise in my book. Overall it's scary and disturbing but at the same time it's really funny. We have a main character who is flawed and doesn't have a bulletproofed plan. At the same time he just makes regular mistakes in places where TV usually makes us believe it wouldn't happen - like trying to throw a small rock in the window to get someone's attention (haha). Overall Season 1 has been great in my opinion, I just hope they won't milk it down following the well done job.
