Everything about the show is expertly put together, from the acting down to the cinematography. I read this in Indiewire and had to share:
Playing into Corwin and McKay’s mix-and-match archival style, the DP shot a variety of film stocks — 35mm, 16mm, and 8mm color and black-and-white — and even incorporated long outdated tube video technology (Ikegami ITC-730A and HL-79 cameras).
You can search Indiewire for the article, as I am seemingly incompetent; the way I add URLs in Markdown doesn't seem to apply here. In any case, awesome stuff.
can't believe they cancelled this show. fuckkkk zaslav
Every single person in this is perfectly casted. I cant imagine anyone else playing Dr Buss, Pat, Magic and Kareem. And the last two are especially insane considering it was both actors first role.
First season was really cool, but I am not sure a second season was needed. It seemed to drag out the story and I am not surprised it ultimately got cancelled. If you are a fan of sport dramas, this is certainly worth checking out, at least the first season that is.
Average Season Review: 7.75/10
Recommendation: At Least Give it a Whirl (For Sport Drama Fans)
Why did you delete it?
Hated season 1. Love season 2. Shame they pulled the plug ☹
I really enjoyed this show, and I’m not really into basketball. Second season is a little slower. But they should have done another season to wrap it up correctly. Another failure of WB discovery.
[AFTER SEASON 1]
This show is truly great! Amazing style and an interesting story. I’m not familiar with the NBA and his history that much, but this was a cool way to share it with people that don’t watch basketball (even if it's a bit exaggerated). If I had to say something negative, it has to be that it jumps in time a little bit too fast. Could’ve taken it a bit more slow, but that's nitpicking. The cast is good, but the only one who stands out for me (not in a positive way) is Jason Segel. I kept thinking: "what's Marshall doing here?" and it's distracting. I could be the only one with that problem, since I watched HIMYM 6 million times, so I won't fault Winning Time for that.
Still, glad there’s a season 2 on the way! Give me more!
This is a fantastic show. I'm surprised how much I enjoyed it. It'll definitely figure into my top 5 tv seasons for 2022. 8.8 / 10
[HBO Max] Although the beginning is halting and confusing, very Adam McKay-esque, the series improves as it focuses on the sporting aspects, especially personal rivalries and changes in coaches, and gets rid of annoying elements like the breaking of the fourth wall. It reaches its greatest intensity in the last episodes, especially those directed by Salli Richardson-Whitfield, and manages to portray the eighties with its complexities and its flaws.
I get the criticism from the real people and players who're portrayed in this show, but still, it's a drama series and not a documentary. And man it is one hell of a grood show. Happy to see it renewed for a second season.

This show is amazing. I sure hope they get a Season 2.
