[7.4/10] Pretty good!I’m still waiting for the show to get the magic back, but this was still a solid watch.
My favorite storyline was Lazlo trying to influence Colin Robinson Jr. as the kiddo develops a taste for musical theater and lego-craft. The show captures tht little kid singular focus on some interest and manner of speech perfectly, and Mark Proksch does a great job with it. Lazlo trying to get his young ward interested in more manly pursuits to slim results is good for a laugh. And I especially like where they end the story, with Lazlo regretting how his dad didn’t accept him and so choosing to accept Colin Jr., if he doesn’t get the rapidly-growing kid’s interests. Plus Colin Jr. saving the day at the club with his musical theater interest is a nice way to button things up.
My second favorite was Nandor and Guillermo meticulously working through possibilities so that Nandor can wish for a larger penis without having some unfortunate twist meant to teach him a lesson. It’s a subplot in the vein of the best What We Do in the Shadows traditions of taking some supernatural trope and breaking it down to the mundane and ridiculous. There’s not much to it, but the duo’s list and the Dinn’s blase attitude is amusing, and the twist that nandor now sees Guillermo when trying to do the deed is an amusing capper.
Last but not least, I have real mixed feelings about Nadja’s story of opening...Nadja’s. Her excitement and joy at realizing her dream is infectious. But the story of a musician who doesn’t show up and then goes with observational humor when freed of his controlling agent/familiar is misaimed at best. Maybe it’s just that I find Fred Armisen profoundly unfunny, but that part of the bit did nothing for me.
Overall, two out of three ain't bad, and the third subplot even had its moments. Hopefully signs for the new season!
Fantastic episode after what felt like a relatively dragging first two episodes - entirely reminded me of why this show is so brilliant in the first place. The "baby Colin" storyline is a stroke of genius, and Lazslo and Guillermo as co-parents having married couple arguments over the best way to childrear him is so much fun. That's not even getting into the easter eggs in this episode, like Colin's adorable Youtube channel and nicknames for the cast (like "Uncle Memo.") Wonderful episode and has me very excited for next week.
I believe I have just witnessed the worst concert EVER in a series... HAHAHAHHAHA. I love it
So, formulating a wish to a Djinn can be so tricky...I salute the effort :)
Meh, maybe I'm just in a bad mood after some crappy television today, but I hated this episode.
“Ninety percent of my business is penis enlargement.”
Dear lord I laughed so hard at the Richie/Dr Tom bit that was an OBVIOUS reference to Brian Wilson and Dr. Eugene Landy! This series is brilliant
Fred Armisen is an unfunny douche thar sucks all of the humor out of every scene he's in, and his aappearance here is no exception. At least the rest of the episode's decent ..!
