The parody of the baseball scene from Twilight (Muse included) fkng killed me.
"Petrol and ... coal".
"Oh, a hybrid"
This show has so many good setups. Brilliant!
[7.7/10] This one was a lot of fun. Aida Turturro (Janice Soprano!) is a great get for the show, and the eponymous Gail is an amusing character. The way she’s kind of a hot mess express, constantly two-timing Nandor and breaking his heart, while also making mundane complaints about her daughter and the weather is amusing.
I also love the running gag of everyone assuming Nadja hates her because of catty reasons with her constant refrain of “I don’t dislike Gail!” It’s a funny mini-satire of how women who don’t get along are treated, and her whamming Gail with the kickball was a big laugh.
There was a lot of good physical comedy in this one, laced with special effects, in the proud What We Do in the Shadows tradition! Lazlo and Colin Robinson palling around with Lazlo’s old “jalopy” was a hoot. We don’t get them as a pairing very often, but their dynamic is very funny. The bits of Lazlo running Colin over with his car or accidentally lighting him on fire were also worth a chuckle.
Similarly, the return of the werewolves was a laugh riot. The way they chase cars, bury kickballs, and remind one another to take heart medicine so they don’t get worms tickled my funny bone. You also can’t beat a top notch Twilight reference via the kickball game (replete with song cue), which was probably inevitable for a vampire show. My favorite part was Lazlo running the bases as a bat. There’s a lot of plain old madcap physical humor here that really worked for me.
My one reservation is I’m still not sure how I feel about changing the Guillermo/Nandor dynamic to be more of a Smithers/Burns thing. Guillermo’s jealousy over Nandor dating Gail, him trying to get Nadja to do his dirty work, and him ultimately trying to reassure his master after Nandor gets his heart broken are interesting beats. All that said, Nandor’s always been such a jerk to Guillermo outside of a few kind moments that it’s hard to root for in any meaningful way.
Still, setting that aside, this one works on a pure laugh-per-minute basis, and I’ll take it.
the Twilight tribute. This show is always off the rails
'The Shroud of Urin!' Would love to have seen that.
it ahs always been nadja but now lazlo is slowly turning into my favorite one
Kristen Schaal is a treat and it’s great she’s a recurring character this season
oddly enough I enjoyed this episode a lot. strange because on it's face there wasn't a lot I liked about it.
That twilight recreation was amazing!!!
