Can Americans not come up with anything original then???? actually humiliating all these remakes esp when the humour doesn't transfer over
Lots of reviews here comparing this show unfavorably to its UK counterpart - I haven't seen the original so I came to this show with no expectations, and found it very funny. Kelly and Lloyd are wacky characters, a couple of adult-sized little kids given the freedom to do the stupidest thing imaginable, and you can't look away.
I really love This Country (the show this one is hoping to be) because of the comedic genius of its writer/actress, Daisy May Cooper. I truly hope the creators of this show get it right. Sometimes shows like this only work in a certain setting with certain actors. Willing to give it a go!!
shit alone how they write its real when most of the are actors i know lol
How in the heck is this show getting such a low rating? Does everyone just think it is too Parks and Rec, Trailer Park Boys or Letterkenny et al to just give it a chance on its own? Ask me, it is pretty amazing. You have to willingly treat it as a standalone product. Sam Straley is hilarious in this role. Aya Cash tries to step out of her type casting, but it is a hard achievement for all us You're The Worst lovers. Seann Williams does an excellent job as well as the rest of the cast.
This is American Letterkenny through and through and feels like Parks and Rec. I am very disappointed this one got cancelled, because this is a comfort sitcom if I had ever seen one. Was it original? No. But is quality content to chuckle at and pass time. Also, being based in Ohio helped sway be a bit more to hitting any bias I may have.
Average Season Review: 8/10
Recommendation: At Least Give it a Whirl (For Workplace Comedy Fans)
One of those shows that took time to grow on me. Kelly and Shrub Mallet are absolutely hilarious, but I remember being a bit thrown off by them when I watched the pilot episode. I think the show being forced to pause its production at the beginning of the pandemic only strengthened it, because the writing becomes a lot stronger as the first season progresses.
Really hoping for a third season, this is one of my favorite TV comedies in years!
I was reluctant to spend time on this series after how dreadful the original (This Country) is, but eventually gave it a go and wasn't disappointed. Unlike This Country, this has very likeable characters and actors/actresses. If the original was going for pure cringe and no humour it hit the mark but if it was meant to be comedy it failed miserably, where as this combines the cringe and humour really well.
More often than not American's fail to replicate or improve on English series but like with The Office this is a huge improvement on the English version.
Made it thru 4 episodes. Pretty painful to watch. I love Beth.

UGH! I could barely make it through episode one without turning it off. I really wish American TV would leave these foreign sitcoms alone and not try and remake them for American audiences!! They work in their country for a reason! They do not translate well at all!
Shows like "The Office," "Miranda" (which is the awful American show "Call Me Kat," and now this show which is trying so hard to copy the characters from "This Country." What doesn't work here are the actors. They are not comedic actors or writers. The writers are probably not from small rural cities either because the writers used all the stereotypes of what "Hollywood" expect people from small rural towns to act/look like.
The writers got zero of the small American town nuances, regional slang, regional dialects, and they did not use locals in the filming.
Think about shows like "Letterkenny" and how they go about showcasing the cultures within their small rural Canadian communities and you'll know what I mean...or...just go and watch "This Country" and enjoy that instead of trying to enjoy this.
More things that ruined it for me: The show was filmed mostly in areas within North Carolina where a lot of Hollywood shows have been made. I swore I saw some sets that I have seen in other American shows like Gossip Girl or the like.
I cannot really see Sean Williams Scott as a vicar due to his unfortunate type-casting from his American Pie days. I really wish this would have been done better. It's just lazy now how American sitcoms are being made. Really lazy.
