Wokeism has infested every show. They all suck now.
Slapped in the face with race and gender swaps, historical accuracy be damned! Vikings should have stayed on the History channel.
Ahh, Hollywood, rewriting history to suit their preferences instead of reality as they pump out one agenda driven alternative version of "history" after another.
As someone, who didn't really like Vikings (it was average for me, most of the time it was boring), but loved Ivar and the overall concept of the original show, I didn't really had any expectations about this one. And I think this is the only thing that saved Valhalla from being rated 1 star.
Sadly this show was the definition of boredom. It lacked tension, it lacked really anything. The characters were too weak, they didn't stood out, however they wanted to - except Jarl Haakon, but only because she was portrayed as a black woman. If she would have been portrayed as any other viking, she could have been an other one of those average characters as her companions. Not even the main characters were interesting enough. Leif was too silent for most of the time, Prince Harald was just too much, and the actor played his role too badly, and he had the cringest scene of all time. Freydis... well, with her, her character arc could have been better, too bad this show lacks the same as its origin: good time management. Freydis was a hunter, and overnight she became a fearsome shield maiden. Prince Harald and Leif became insta-brothers just because our Prince lay with Leif's sister. One moment Freydis doesn't like Prince Harald, the next she is in love with him...
Not much is going on on the english side too, unless you count Edmond. I think he could have been a great character, but thanks to Godwin... well, let's not say just anything. And of course Godwin, I don't think he has any logic behind his acts. I mean I couldn't figure out his motives. I thknk they wanted to create somebody like the Kingmaker in Henry VIII's time, but though they chose a good actor for him, Godwin (and the whole series) has the main issue: we don't get to see their inner motives, the behind the scenes. With that, the show could be better.
So lack of good story telling, bad dramaturgy, and boring characters with average actors - Valhalla could have been a great show, the main story behind it is interesting (chatolic vs. pagan vikings), sadly it lacked even those tiny good things that the original show could stand out with (great characters, interesting myths and worldbuilding).
Not sure, if I'm going to continue with this one.
This suffers from the same issues that took VIKINGS from a must watch series to a “Meh” - it lost its soul. When the charismatic Ragnar Lothbrok, complex Lagertha and winning Rollo exited VIKINGS, the series degenerated into uninteresting characters doing gory things. In this case, VIKINGS VALHALLA didn’t even find a soul. It doesn’t have a character worth investing in. Leif Ericsson comes off as a moody adolescent. The introduction to Freydis is promising but the role was horrible miscast and the other casting was mediocre (with the exception of Queen Emma who was a bright spot). It was basically beautiful people searching for a character. The “intrigue” was convoluted. The pseudo history was a mess. I guess you know where I’m going here, I give this series a 5 (meh) out of 10. [Historical? Fantasy? Drama]
Can somebody with Premium please update the show? There are only 8 episodes, not the 12 shown here.
Not quite as good as the first Vikings series. I thought it was a bit boring at first, but just need to persevere past the first couple of episodes.
Not really the Vikings feeling i hoped for, it’s just different.
Amazing. It has the potential to be the next game of thrones. It just needs more beautiful naked women. Season 2, hurry up!!!!
This is so stupid! Why did they decide to force Leiv Eiriksson into these storylines where he was not involved at all? Why do they constantly refer to him as a Greenlander when he only lived there a few years but was born and grew up on Iceland? Why are they going with Canute (English version of name) instead of Knut (his actual name)? An African woman ruling a Viking village like Kattegat in those days, WHAT IS GOING ON
So much nonsense, in addition to supernatural "facts" where different people are dreaming about the same things etc.
Ugh, if it wasn't for my completion is tendencies I would not continue watching this shit.
[Netflix] Regarding "Vikings" (2013-2020), it gains in spectacularity what it loses in depth of the characters. An entertaining show that can't be expected to reveal great aspects of the era or relationships between the Vikings, and doesn't even seem too interested in exploring the arrival of Christianity in pagan lands other than as a confrontational element that, once again, fuels conflict and power struggles.
Yes casting was good, Yes directing was OK, yes the locations were fine, and Yes OSTs were perfect
BUT
There are 3 teenagers who can beat all !!!
Not near as good as the original, but worth watching. They did take this shieldmaiden silliness too far.
Yeah I can't bother finishing the first episode of season 2 would probably tank through it if I rewatched the first season to remember everything but if the show was truly good you'd remember the first season
Vikings was great, at first, dropped off a cliff once Ragnar and Rollo exited the story. I had high hoped for this, episode was one was actually quite good IMO but then this too dropped off a cliff and that's without any characters exiting the show, it's just dull. I might give it another shot if I ever find myself with literally nothing else to watch but, for now it's in the folder marked "TV Binned".
I honestly don't think this deserves another season. Some of the episodes could have been in the Viking comedy Norsemen. If Vikings had really been this pathetic then they never would have had most of Europe living in fear, they would have been lucky to make it up a river nevermind across the world's oceans.
Enjoyed this show more than I thought I would, though I didn't really feel Freydis storyline and found the romances to be a bit lackluster.
Emma and Leif are definitely my favorite characters so far.

As a fan of Vikings I simple had to binge this. Set 100 years later we get introduced to the next generation of mythical figures. You don't need to have watched the original to be able to get into this story, at worst you'll miss a couple "I get that reference" smirks. What is clear from the start is that this show has been produced with a little tweak to the original. Same quality sets and world building but somewhat lighter. I'd say 20% less nudity, 20% more action and the drama needs to share the spotlight with political intrigue. Looks like they have a big budget, so we see bigger battles (like the siege of Paris in the original series) as well as the skirmishes. I think it lands somewhere between the original Vikings and The last Kingdom. If you are a fan of either I can highly recommend this season.
