[9.2/10] Hell of an episode to lead into the finale. This show’s insult humor is always on point, but it was on fire here.
I love the Selina crisis of the week, with the last episode’s reveal that Mike left his diary with the WaPo reporter coming back in a big way. There’s the heaven and hell of Selina having her dirty laundry aired in public, only to then get credit for freeing Tibet, which is a nice plot swerve. But better yet, I love the depths of Selina’s awfulness here.
The way she straight up offers Amy to the Leon West is pretty hilariously low, even for her, and the same goes for her using Catherine’s illness to skip out on the Tonight Show (with Adam Scott!) and then ignoring Catherine’s illness when she’s riding high. There’s an Arrested Development-esque mode of finding the comedy in people being awful on this show, and this may be the peak of that.
Dan’s story was fine, and wraps up his stint as a news anchor nicely. His oblique references to sleeping with one co-star and the age of the other is mildly amusing, and his inability to stand being shuffled out of the picture, enough to where he’s ready to put up a shingle as a political consultant with Ben and Kent is a decent story direction for him.
But my absolute favorite is Jonah’s story. First off, it’s ridiculous as all hell, but him bumping his head on the low ceiling constantly was just hilarious physical comedy. And his various rabbis (figuratively speaking, despite his circumcision) abandoning him, even after it looks like they would stick around, is a funny, bitterly ironic twist of fate.
Overall, an outstanding episode that pays off a lot of things the show’s been keeping around for a while in a very humorous way.

Uncle Jeff’s visit is just one disgusting insult after another savage burn and I scream-laugh at it every time.
