[7.2/10] Not as good as some of the earlier episodes this season, but still solid stuff. I like Selina being reassured that she’s having a minor heart attack and not menopause, and feigning concern for Gary, while really not caring. The whole Supreme Court Justice fake out is well done, and the kind of “tantalize you with a good thing and instead get a shit sandwich” that always seems to happy to Selina (not that she doesn’t deserve it. The same goes for the donation from Sherman Tams to start her library that she’s angling for.
Speaking of which, I like the idea that Jonah keeps failing up, with Sherman Tams basically buying him and turning him into a political stalking horse.
The MVP of the episode is Tony Hale as Gary, who sells the character’s loopiness when he’s on medication after fainting, and his Smithers-like affection for Selina, with a bout of physical comedy to boot. Selina is, true to form, pretty awful to him. Speaking of which, there’s some nice symmetry when Catherine laughs at the news that her mom had a heart attack. The shtick with Dan having low sperm motility is a little odd, as his friendship with his co-anchor that makes the staff think they’re a thing.
Overall, this one was a little aimless. It’s interesting that they’re slowly but surely getting the band back together, and there’s something to the idea of none of these people knowing how to do anything else besides work for Selina, but this one couldn’t quite get everything to jell.
