Jesus Christ, you know? You do your best. You try to serve the people and then they just fuck you over.
And you know why? Because they're ignorant and they're dumb as shit. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is democracy.
That worry about the tie and the process behind that became all too real in the 2020 election as well.
the best episode so far
this is still the best episode of Veep.

[8.7/10] So much going on in this one and so much stuff to like. My favorite thing is how this finale paid off the Amy-Selina issues that the show had been working on this season. It's subtle character stuff, but things like Amy needing to go be with her former boss on election night, or Selina going into Amy's arms when she has her break down and thinks she might tie and still not get to be president, show the strength of their bond (albeit on that may not be especially healthy) even though they have their problems. Selina telling Amy she was right and shoving wishy-washy Karen out of the way was sublime stuff.
Speaking of which, I again loved Hugh Laurie as Tom James here. The way he kept guilessly pressing Karen for an answer and then quietly made fun of her for her noncommital qualities, or slipped the velvet glove off and showed that he too has ambition and political acumen, were nicely done. It fits well with him and Erickson and other people barging in with news or asking for favors.
(We also get a rare but welcome bit of insight into Sue's life and how she views the rest of the office! Wish we got more!)
I also enjoyed the chaos of the reveal of the tied election. The whole team scrambling to figure out what it means (with Gary's lament on how many amendments there are in particular) was good fodder for comedy. It keeps things in an interesting holding pattern for next season and works as a unique way to pull the rug out from under Selina yet again.
The only part I didn't really care for were Dan's bits on CNN with the Nate Silver analog. It just didn't really go anywhere beyond mercenary Dan wishing he was still a part of that and contrasting him with reluctant but true believer Amy going to be with her people. Otherwise, there was a lot of interesting tension and character moments and silly bits all around that worked. Nice way to close out the season.
(Silly fan theory -- Brad Leland is playing the same character here that he did on Parks and Recreation.)
