[6.7/10] Eh, I like the idea of doing a bit of Dawn of the Dead at the Triskelion, but at some point, everyone turning into lizards veered into the realm of too much cheese for my tastes. There’s some decent obstacles here and there, but everyone succumbed to the lizard infestation way too easily. Plus, it became really obvious early on that the anti-Lizard vial would be used with the vaporizer device FitzSimmons mentioned earlier to save the day, so everything felt like the show spinning its wheels until we got to that inevitability.
But hey! FitzSimmons! Seeing them interact with the Ultimate Spider-Man crew is a treat for an Agents of Shield fan like me. And there was actually some good comedy in this one, though it mostly came from Flash. His duncehood has gone to a bit of an extreme at times, but it’s still good for some laughs, particularly in his interactions with the squirrels. At the same time, his buddy-buddy routine with Alex was genuinely heartening, and gave the betrayal at the end more force than I might have expected.
Otherwise, there’s the whole “I trust Dr. Connors” schtick between Peter and Amadeus that the audience was beaten over the head with. I don’t really know what the point was, but at least it had a solid payoff in Connors holding off his lizard alter ego just long enough to deliver the cure. The whole spy mystery at least adds some juice to ordinary interactions otherwise.
Overall, this was a decent premise that was too rushed and had a bit of a tacked on theme, but brought in some characters I enjoy and had good work for Flash and Alex that made up for some deficiencies elsewhere.
