[5.7/10] Eh, I like the idea of this one. The concept of Electro striking the city, to where nothing that runs on electricity can function, poses an interesting challenge for our heroes. And the fact that their solution to beating him is to spread him so thin that he comes unstable is a creative one.
But good lord, this was a preachy, hamfisted episode. I’m sympathetic to the show’s message about too much screen time, and people being distracted and disconnected when attempting to multitask with their devices, but “Electro” just hammers that point home so many times and so forcefully that you can’t help but roll your eyes at it.
At the same time, the whole chase of Electro is pretty yawn-inducing. The fact that they turn Electro from his classic outfit into some Dr. Manhattan/Aang wannabe look isn’t great. And the show doesn't really make the most of the “no electricity” premise since it takes the Shield cadets way too long to figure out how to get by. The fights are uninspired and while Batroc the Leaper is entertaining in this one, Electro himself is pretty forgettable in this incarnation, despite the coolness of his powers.
Overall, this is one of the weakest episodes yet, made particularly meh by the inclusion of its rib-elbowing message.
