That last episode was a masterpiece. Superb ending to a good season.
Loved When Purple Sais... You're just like a Pretty Bird flying around shittin on people's heads and I don't need one of them. I was doin real good without no Head Shittin Birds in here.
Loved the characters, loved the interwoven timelines. The reveal of what happened was a huge let down. Not only in the sense of what events actually transpired but also HOW it was revealed to us. Junius/June/Watts dumped the whole truth on us in a 15 minute monologue. I’m sorry but maybe in a show called True Detective we might enjoy detectives actually doing detective work to get behind that truth. But the one eyed guy just playing Mr. Exposition seems rushed and lazy.
This last episode played us all. We all wanted "the truth" and to keep searching just as much as Wayne and the blonde reporter woman. She was alluring to his son and represented the temptation we all get when we search for the truth at the cost of our relationships. Wayne sacrificed his relationships for "the search" since he went to the war and clearly all the way up until his condition saved him from himself in a way none of us expected and reunited him with his family and friends.
Loved this season, dare I say, more than Season 1.
Wasn't a bad season considering the previous one. The cast was great, but the way the story was laid out made it so that each episode was a bit of a drag, I honestly didn't feel thrilled for a good part of the season because the mystery felt very absent from most of the 3 timelines. The last episode was a good closure though.
disappointment, but not a huge one, compared to season two
Show constantly reminded us throughout the season that it's about community that was destroyed as much as it is about the crime itself. Unfortunately, when all is said and done we don't see much evidence of the first one and the story surrounding the crime is disappointing on multiple levels.
For a show that's called True Detective, detectives are pretty clueless - constantly on the wrong trail, and completely in the dark about what happened until everything is spelled out for them by mr. Julius. Not only that story behind the crime isn't that interesting but we get big exposition dump that explains everything in a manner of a Youtube recap video, most of which isn't even hinted at in previous episodes.
They had an opportunity to play around with unreliable narrator given the problems Hays has with remembering stuff which could be interesting in combination with the interview , but unfortunately that whole memory aspect boils down to nothing more than a backdrop for some nice editing transitions between time periods. One could argue that except last few minutes it makes no difference at all to the story. Whole interview aspect also went nowhere, and seem other to give them a reason to take one last look at the case.
This is by far the worst season as it clearly had nothing interesting to say - second one was a mess for the first half, but then found it's footing and even matched greatness of season 1 at times. At the very least it didn't try to backtrack to try to emulate what made season one so popular but was completely it's own thing.
I must admit I watched some of the episodes in a bit faster rate and that's felt comfortable to me, otherwise - too slow.
I don't know why everyone were trashing the second season that much, I think they were all different, but equally deep and engaging (even though it was a bit slow).
Mahershala Ali is absolutely mesmerizing
That bar scene with Roland was so hilarious. Hays getting his family alltogether. The ending touched me. Amazing season.
Best season of the show.
Not my favourite season or ending or anything.
To begin with I hated her, she was so manipulative, so selfish she ruined his career twice and I really hoped she was involved on the crime! Nobody cared about the ending and how they got together.
Also, from the first episodes they have one major suspect, one major clue. Not an average Joe, a black man with one eye! ONE.EYE.
And they never pursuit to the fullest. It even appears again in the 90s with cameras on the streets with more modern means to track someone and they just decided to not do anything. That was so stupid.
The ending was underwhelmed, completely soft "solution".
Did anyone thought that the gardener was the son of the paedophile?
Seres finale. It's been good, 3 times of research. great performers
i started sobbing when he got lost and called his son and i don't know why
"IT'S ALWAYS TOO LATE" Wow... I made my peace with it being too late, but also there's some ambiguity so that could've been Julie or not, but it's nice to think it was, but also it gave me some comfort that she found safety and peace in that convent even if it was just for a couple of years. So there wasn't an obvious resolution or they didn't get to save the day, but they never gave up and that's what matters, and it was interesting seeing the perspective of a detective who had to take a very long pause in the investigation because he had to prioritize himself and his family, but still he never gave up.
Also that scene in the car with the three time periods merging was amazing!!! and that scene at the tomb where they said their goodbyes and apologies!! and then that scene with the grandchildren riding the bikes was super scary, I was like nooo please don't let them ride too far.
Also this season was kinda super scary, cause you see a very competent fit Wayne in the 80-90s and then you see a sick man who can barely take care of himself, so watching someone go from their prime to their decay was so heartbreaking and the worst part is that THAT is gonna happen to us, and I'm in my prime living through a lockdown watching shows non stop and logging shows in trakt tv! And then if that wasn't scary enough, watching him be stuck in a desk job he hated for 10 years was so traumatizing.
AND THAT ENDING? BOTH OF THEM EXITING TOGETHER!!!! Just an amazing season, with a different storytelling and captivating characters and story.
Very good conclusion to this excellent third season of True Detective. The ending was satisfying with only a few parts of the story being left to the viewer‘s imagination. Overall great storytelling with very interesting characters that kept me excited for each episode. I really hope for another season of this brilliant anthology series.
10/10 . dont know what the last scene was but loved the ambiguity of the whole episode
roll on season 4

I found the characters more interesting than the story itself. The exposition dump was an insulting dumb way to reveal what happened.
