The Grand Tour was full of scripted, dumbed down stuff, not to mention the silly additions like Celebrity brain crash or the American, that lost the flame after couple eps. I actually find TG watchable now, or at least with less incentive to skip it, as it focuses more on the cars then TGT.
Man, this actually felt like a real episode of Top Gear. No Shouty McShoutface, which is the real treat. The 'new' trio appears to get along great, the reviews were great, the trip was great. I'm genuinely excited to see how the rest of the season goes.
This was FANTASTIC. That piece about the Ferrari made me drool, some of the footage was really great especially the helmet camera. The space theme behind the Kazakhstan segment gave me a few goosebumps as well!
That was actually....really fun! Way better than anything last season and even more fun than Grand tour. Congratulations!
Not bad at all actually. Certainly, the protagonists chemistry is nowhere near the original trio, but they compensated for that making a lot more of a "car show" actually. The new car in the Star in a Reasonably Fast Car was a great addition, McAvoy was a great first guest and the interview and all the segment went along well.
LeBlanc and Reid do their best but they certainly don't have the charisma of Harris, which reminds of a younger and faster version of Clarkson. I don't want to compare this to Grand Tour until the season finishes, but this first episode has been better than some Grand Tour episodes.

Gave it a try seeing as they got rid of Evans (can't stand him) and was... underwhelmed. The presenters are generally OK, but there's absolutely no chemistry there. The dialogue which the "classic" trio would have zinging around comes off flat, rehearsed and poorly delivered. There was one moment of about 4-5 seconds in the entire episode where I feel it "worked".
Features-wise, it's still good. The jet wash, Ferrari segment, road trip... all as well planned and well filmed as it ever was. But these presenters? Sorry, just no. Top Gear USA has done better with their trio. This lot are almost as bad as Top Gear Australia.
Good they threw away the ballast hosts -- at least in this episode.

Honestly, that was actually pretty good.
Sure, they may not (yet) have the chemistry of the other 3 idiots that moved on to other, "better", things and they may not be as funny - but there is STILL a pretty good car show here with quite some potential. This is a whole LOT better than last season - the cinematography is still brilliant and they actually got celebrity guests and not a sorry, unfunny excuse like "Celebrity Brain Crash" that got extremely tiresome after 2 or 3 episodes. And that final speech in Baikonur - and the whole bit there actually - was on point to be honest.
I can watch this while I wait for more "The Grand Tour" and if the first episode of this season of Top Gear is any indication, I will enjoy it!
