How... was Scully not immediately aware of the spaceship in that end scene?
Scully: "What else do you want to do or find?"
Mulder: "My sister."
PHRASING!
There sure are a lot of ancient alien artifacts turning up in West Africa. This was an okay cliffhanger and it's fun to see Scully being forced to investigate the alien theories presented by the archeological evidence. The final overhead shot of Scully on the shore is awesome.
Secondary characters in this episode: Krycek, Diana, Lone Gunmen
This story line is quite similar to Prometheus from Aliens. Progenitors being alien and all.
What is this absolute nonsense? Aliens being responsible for religion? Mulder randomly becoming psychic?
Ugh.
Once again, Chris Carter returns to ruin the show's mythology.
Purple prose, check.
Religious nonsense, check.
Further convolution of the alien mythology, check.
Native american mysticism, check.
The Chris Carter special, once again, has returned. From seemingly returning on the right path, that of making actual sense of what is going on and having a focused direction for the story, to now making a mess of everything once again, as usual.
Ugh.
He did a similar thing in the 4th season finale, but managed to pull back my interest in the 5th season opening episode. Let's see if he does the same thing in the 7th season.
But you know, taking a step back for a moment, we have just finished 6 seasons. Most shows don't go so long, but the x files likes to drag out it's central storyline. You can have a storyline spanning several seasons, but when you drag it out too long, the weight and sense of that storyline starts to diminish, as does viewer interest eventually. People like closure and finality and good endings.
Seasons 5 and 6 are a return to form for me overall though, and they are good seasons with a lot of good episodes.

Now that's a cool season finale! There's something happening. What I also noticed is there are still pencils in Mulder's office ceiling, haha!
