One of the best episodes I've seen in the past few seasons! Granted, I'm a sucker for a good monster in the woods plot
When it aired back in 1997, I was 13 years old and on the PEAK of my fandomness for this show. This episode absolutely scared the shat out of me. It's still one of my favs! Also all the lovely Scully-Mulder interactions.
I'd kind of forgotten about this one. The Monster Of The Week is entertaining (if perhaps a little under explored) but what really lifts this episode is the script and interactions between Mulder and Scully. A definite highlight from the show's fifth season.
Oh man, this reminds me of Swamp Thing + Predator. Also liked the footage of The Invisible Man. I am familiar with the FLIR tech too, used to work with those. But hey, good to see Skully well again.
That's Anthony Rapp. Humble beginnings.

This one made an impression on me because it hearkens back to the old "monster of the week" style of episode from the earlier seasons. I really like the "moth-men". They are pretty frightening and even though this episode seems to be trying for a little lighter tone, I find the "moth-men" really raised the intensity. The ending is neat because we really don't know the true origin of the beasts but we know they've been around for a long time.
