Fantastic, amazingly well worth the wait!
6.7/10. While I appreciate the change of scenery, this was something of an unfocused efforts that didn't have as many laughs as I might have hoped. There was a lot of table setting, which is understandable for a new season in a new setting. Brock is back(!); Sgt. Hatred has a desk job; Dean wants to go to University; Hank has become Richie Rich; Doc quickly grows tired of his brother's responsibilities; Dr. Girlfriend is trying to keep the Guild from falling apart; and Monarch and Gary are starting over in a dilapidated house in New Jersey. (Oh, and the Captain is addicted to tranquilizers again!) That's all well and good, but setting up all those details takes a decent amount of time, and leaves little room for the story or the jokes the breathe.
For the ones that do, Gary and Monarch casing the joint had its moments, mostly for the naked cowboy parody. Dr. Girlfriend's efforts to preserve the Guild were probably the most interesting (the "more people of color" joke was amusing) though the deal offered by Wide Whale seemed like it was taking a page out of Mad Men's book. And the Avengers parody was a little too fly-by-night for my tastes, though I didn't enjoy Fallen Archer and his feet-based arrows. (Plus, it's nice to have the return of Nathan Fillion as a Spider-Man parody.) Overall, this episode portended good things for the rest of the season, and succeeded as an introduction to it, but kind of fails as an episode in and of itself.
