This is a hard episode to rate. Its for sure one of the worst episodes of season one, but it does have some great character development from Tony.

A mediocre episode. How much clichés and stereotypes can be in one episode?

This is a rough rewatch. It's a rare Sopranos episode that's poorly written, but this is a stinker (admittedly it's saved by a few choice lines here and there; "maybe we should get another downed power line in here, let you suck on it"). Combine that with some shaky acting, bad blocking (that restaurant scene kills me), cringe-inducing set-pieces (some deliberately so, some not), and forcefully mediocre music, and it's not much fun. If there's a saving grace, it's the thread running through the episode of the slow crystallisation of Dr Melfi's impression of Tony—that despite his charm he is, at base, monstrous and myopic.
