Really great show. Once you get past the first two episodes it becomes quite compelling. Yes, it's a teenage drama, that doesn't make it a bad show.
This show is INCREDIBLE. It takes about 3 episodes to get itself going, and that’s because the episodes are all purely misdirection for the huge twist at the end of episode 3. After that point, the show seriously takes off- it’ll blow your mind. The characters are so well-developed and the plots are incredible.
Within in the genre of 'Teenage-Apocalypse' I'd say this show is pretty decent. But it obviously comes with all the bad stuff that normally comes with that genre.
I'd say it's a good show for a brain-off weekend binge. Nothing more, nothing less.
Can Netflix stick with a series?? I’m sick of tv shows not ending and also with a finale’s cliffhanger!! This wasn’t bad at all, I’ve got to care about few characters and the mystery kept me intrigued. Ok, so did Lost and we all know how it ended, still…
Instead of making thousands of new useless shows they should learn about how to complete them, hopefully improving them following the user’s feedbacks! Not just trash them to make worse new trash!
Incredibly series serious, too bad it was canceled.
I think the main problem of this show is that they merely hold a mirror up to the viewer. They show us society as it is (in most ways) but do not deliver anything that hasn't been done or seen before. Over the course of these 10 episodes a few things do happen that could give compelling tv but... in reality nothing really happens. At the end of the season they pull the old bait and switch making me compelled to see what comes next... I'm once again "afraid" to get fooled especially since these past 10 episodes didn't give me the "Lord of the Flies-esque" show I expected it to be.
If this is Lord of the Flies for the millennal generation than, based on this show, the worst wars we'll have will be snowball fights with helmets and warm clothing.
Don't watch it for the mystery cause it's pretty much abandoned up till the last seconds of the final episode.
I don't know if I can recommend watching this, you might as well be set for the short summary that'll lead up to the pilot of season 2.
OMG, what an excruciating boring and insignificant TV show. There is nothing in this that express quality TV. It's derivative.
this is a really good show but sadly like most netflix / teen shows there are so many inconsistencies in character development and the extras behaving like mindless robots for the plot rather than actually humans with their own free will and thinking.
mhmh one of those shows which would be better as a 90 min movie.
Let me guess this is a modern Lord of the Flies...
but instead of fighting they f*ck...alot...
and instead of the conch shell they have group text...
pass
I mean... It's a good show, but boy these kids are way too self aware and mature for this to reflect reality in any way. Myself and my friends in highschool would have handled things differently, more pragmatic and less maturely. The characters are like miniature adults, not believable. But it's a good story.
wasn't there already a show with the same dilemma? can't remember the name.
that ending was fucking stupid
Yet another quality show that was cancelled way too soon.
I started watching and I actually enjoyed it then...it ended.NOT explaining anything. I wish there would be some fan theory about the end or something.
Truly excellent show, such a shame that it won't get the chance to develop itself.
Great cast, complex and detailed exploration of different themes, The Society asks relevant questions about the world today without giving us easy answers. It doesn't bail out of the difficult question of politics, it engages bravely in it without glaringly pushing it into one direction. (Although some ***** may argue that home abuser Campbell deserves more sympathy). I'm really satisfied with portrayal of relationships between people, the dynamics between public and private interests, human emotions, aspirations, priviledges, biases and social structures, all without falling down into a hole of fetishisation of individualism and overemphasis on personal identity (which I did expect of the show judging by its title). Grizz, Kelly and Helena as characters are excellent, there cannot be enough scenes with them.
But the most important thing is that this show didn't left me indifferent and it managed to do its magic on me.
I have a few minor critiques - character of Will is not up to standard as the other characters, he's lacking something, but I can't define what really, his role should've been more thought through. Also, like some of the other commentators here noticed, there's too little emphasis on searching what's around the town or how to actually escape from that place, like they all gave up for 5-6 months after first attempt that resulted with death . For my taste, the show didn't show much of daily routines which mundanity angers significant part of the population and which (the anger) becomes a major drive for later developments, as a viewer you can't really grasp the atmosphere of the town, maybe more mass scenes would help to amend that problem .
Was excited, but after 3 episode I was like 'nah'. Can't even finish the third episode. The only good guys are the long haired guy, the smart guy, and the deaf guy, and that guy, will I think, yeah I don't know what he's doing. While the others are beasts, they just wrecked the city like shit.
Is it good? No. Is it bad? No. Is it binge-able? Yes.
Interesting concept, however I feel like the show is dragged down by typical teen show issues. Concepts such as exploration gets put into the background (takes them 5 months to send out a second expedition!!), when it should have a been a priority.
Another good note is the amount of main characters the show boasts with strong backgrounds, an issue with that is that a number of them are unlikeable (Ally, Cassandra, Will, the jocks (apart from Luke)).
Just need to tweak a few things from the first season and the second one could be great. I’ll definitely be watching

Not gonna lie, this is a teen show and those who don't have a minimum of tolerance for this kind of content won't like it, but once past that this is so good.
It has a very similar tone to The 100's first season (it changes a lot after)
Not only the actors aren't bad, but a lot of them are really really good
It doesn't take away the stupidity element this kind of shows usually have, but that's also what makes this so deliriously addicting. Besides, it has enough copmlexity to make a very enjoyable mix
In my opinion its biggest strength is the big amount of main characters and the time they dedicate to depelop every one of them, it makes it easier to engage
Awesome show, and indeed after you get past the few first episodes, it will most likely warm on you. Now I just hope to see more of it already.
This show incinerated my wig
Boring.. don't watch this..there are better shows than that
So Netflix actually paid for a 10 episodes about nothing, absolutely nothing. Don't waste your precious time for this, I repeat DO NOT WATCH THIS, it's not worth at all.
A dark vision about a world without rules but with a lot of consequences. The Society is an exploration of the loss of control, chaos among teenagers when adults are gone and how fucked up your world can turn up to be when you get to know the people around you. Many people see this a boring version of Lord of the Flies but its an interesting show once you get involved in the plotlines... some characters will annoy you, but how the story plays out in the following episodes, can change your mind.
If you did't like "The 100" or "The Dome" then "The Society" (see the Pattern here? :p) isn't for you either
the only good thing is the deaf guy. we should have more handicaped people in movies and shows. if possible played by handicaped actors. but nobody seems to care about that, but everyone demands POC and gay trans queer or more women bla bla bla whatever. hypocrites.
but, the show is bad, very very bad.

Don't be fooled by those comments, the show isn't as bad as they are saying, it was most likely not directed towards them. Everyone has a type of show they like, so if you aren't a fan of teenage drama this obviously won't be a show for you (duh).
Ps: if you are into teenage drama meets mystery this one is for you, the first few episodes are more of the former but it gets way better as the episodes pass. It had a the 100 and under the dome vibe.
