Good show. That's all I have to say.
God damnit, HBO! Enough with the dicks!
Absolutely amazing, defiantly must watch if you love a good comedy. I swear Danny McBride can do no wrong.
Im down for anything with Danny McBride in it!!! Dude is hilarious.
Ssssighhhhh...I wish I had somebody special in my life to get mad at me for doing stupid stuff.....well, you do..Jesus Christ..now get the fuck outta here
Hilarious, dont watch much comedy but this show is a must see,its piss the pants funny.
a cross between southern evangalism and WWF or E - what more do u need to say?
i had a feeling this would be good but wow. absolutely love it.
Goodman,McBride,Divine,Coggins? How can this show not be funny. And the actors who play Judy,Giddion and BJ are just as funny. Looking forward to season 2. Highly recommend this show.
Enjoyable comedic send-up of megachurch pastors and the cult of personality perpetuated by their loyal "flock". Somewhat over-the-top... but still grounded enough that the satire lands.
Dark, cynical and filled to the brim with great characters and fantastic performances.
Fell short on some narrative promises in this season, but overall still a great viewing experience.
Dig it!
This largely fails as satire because outside of Edi Patterson and Danny McBride, this is just kind of how fundamentalist mega-churches are. The silliness just has to be cranked up so high to be clear that it's meant as satire. Walton Goggins singing There is a Fountain Filled Blood just sounds like someone singing that song in church. John Goodman is such an awesome actor that he just comes off as a mega-church pastor. He's actually quite restrained in comparison with people like Robert Jeffress or Ted Haggard. Robert Tilton used to offer to send his favorite tie to anyone who would send him $10,000. You can't satarize that. The show is well done and the actors are great. It's just a hard thing to pull off.
Have you ever wondered what would happen if Fargo replaced the characters with the creeps from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia?
Well, I'll be dipped in holy water, "The Righteous Gemstones" is like a church potluck on steroids! This show's got everything - megachurches, private jets, and more family dysfunction than a Thanksgiving dinner with your in-laws. And let me tell you, the Gemstones family is one crazy bunch. They're like the Kardashians, but with more Bible verses and less plastic surgery. But don't let that fool you - they've got some serious problems going on. It's like a sermon, but with more drama and less salvation. And the writing? Well, it's like the Ten Commandments, but with more F-bombs. The dialogue is so good, you'll be quoting it to your pastor faster than you can say "amen." And the bad guys? They're like something out of a Joel Osteen nightmare. They're slimy, they're sneaky, and they're more dangerous than a snake in a megachurch. But don't worry, the Gemstones family has got Jesus on their side. Whether you're a believer or just like to watch people sin, "The Righteous Gemstones" is the perfect show for you. So grab your Bible, sit back, and enjoy the show. Just don't forget to pass the collection plate - the Gemstones family needs a new private jet for their dog.
If I wasn't against religion before this show...I'm totally against it now. Thanks HBO!
I really dislike Danny McBride in everything he does. That being said, this show is great. Despite him being in it, the rest of the cast really pull it together.
It's not really that funny most of the time and some of the stuff that's happening is really dumb and pointless. Some good acting, although the southern accent thing feels overdone and a little cringy sometimes. Judy Gemstone (Edi Patterson) in particular pulls of some stellar acting as the spoiled brat girl of the family. The head of the family (John Goodman) doesn't really fit the macho dad thing they're trying to pull off and that alone kinda ruins the vibe of this show for me atleast. Regardless, it was entertaining enough to sit through and the cast does make up for some of its shortfalls. It's a decent show to watch when you have nothing else lined up.
The pilot really didn’t grab me, but I’m glad I stuck around until it hit its stride. It’s got very few laugh out loud funny moments but the story and the characters are great.

Two levels of insanity in these Danny McBride shows: 1. the monstrous characters, and 2. the show itself taking them seriously (heartfelt music, slow motion closeups etc.). McBride has cornered this genre and elevated it to a hilarious art form.
