After all the Kyoto treaty violations of US soldiers in Irak and Afghanistan, torturing their enemies, raping their women, etc., they want us to believe that these soldiers morals were no shy from a comic superhero?? give me a break, this is bullshit fantasy!
Overall, the series is slightly worse than Band of Brothers, however Okinawa (Episode 9) is better than any episode in BoB by quite a bit.
Just finished watching this.
It's really great at times, slow at others. Opposed to some other comments I don't think this is eye to eye with BoB. Not saying it's bad but I just never felt connected with the characters the way I did with BoB. Like it says in the shows description they follow three marines throughout seperate events. For me that was the problem. You are with one of them in battle and next scene you're with another one back home. Another thing I thought was missing is that I never got the feel for the scope of the battle. Yes, it's a mini-series not Hollywood and there is not as much budget but especially in the first half of the show it felt rather small.
Nevertheless I would recommend this, it is well worth the time watching it.
it's a very good series. band of brothers was much better tho
As brutal as they cone
As brutal as they come
episode 09 is easily the breakout of the series. unavoidable to compare it against band of brothers, to its detriment. practical gore effects are much stronger here (reasonable as well, since the pacific theatre was a mess of heat and wet), but the writing, pacing, sub-character development...
rami steals the show for me
It tried to be Band of Brothers in the Pacific but failed miserably at that. You really couldn't find that love of each character. That being said I think this is still a great WWII miniseries that shows the war in an entirely different light than BoB.
The Pacific is a MESS and a WASTE OF TIME. The writing was so incredibly disjointed and amateurish that it killed all interest i had in WW2 half way through the show and forced me to stop watching and skip the last two episodes.
Like Band of Brothers, the set pieces in The Pacific were epic and highly authentic. But where B.o.B succeeds and this movie fails is the plot. B.o.B is able to introduce unique characters and build their arc throughout the entire series without jeopardising the core theme of war. The Pacific does everything wrong. It throws you right into the middle of the war without any character development and then proceeds to take a nose dive and immediately jump to a separate story line completely AWAY from the war for THREE. WHOLE. EPISODES as part of their pathetic excuse for character development. I'm no professional but i'm pretty sure this is NOT how you write a TV show about war. You don't make the foundation of the show a boring romantic drama with a couple of war scenes sprinkled here and there, you blend everything together seamlessly and make the viewer feel like they're on a journey.
After those three episodes the rest of the series is a mish mash of civilian drama in Australia and fighting in Japan. There is nothing wrong with having down-time in a war story, but make it fit in with the plot of the fucking war. Don't try to shove irrelevant drama down my throat.
Have we all watched the same show? Have you read the reviews on IMDB? 10/10 really? Sorry but terrible. No character development and a horrendous last episode that could easily be forgotten.
Not too many people knows about this show. If you ever come across it I would advise you to watch it. It's a very short series. You won't regret it. After you done, check out the band of brothers. Great shows. I promise.
I found this a lot grimmer than band of brothers. Both shows are no holds barred.
One of the best mini-series out there, shoulder to shoulder with BoB.
this is one underrated mini series!
Band of Brothers was so much better than this.

I think this show is better than Band of Brothers. Pacific catches better the human side of soldiers.
