This is getting a bit tedious and too slow for its own good...
As predicted, after they rushed through the best half of King's book in just 2 episodes, the rest of this show is a tedious crawl through mediocre material.
I’m so disappointed in this show now. They have literally cut out the best parts of the story to fill it with useless characters who are so much less interesting than any of the most boring characters in the book. The fact that they replaced Claude’s mom, who I was really looking forward to seeing in the show, with his brother who is just a useless, cringe character, is infuriating.
Another thing, isn’t this creature, the outsider, supposed to be flaunting the new person that he is so that everyone can witness him and identify him? But here he’s wearing a mask!? How does that even fit with the entire storyline?
Additionally! I hate Jack’s role in this. What,?? is the outsider incapable of hunting his own food? I love the book’s idea of an incubation period and that is completely devoid in the show.
Shout out to the sister!!!!!! She did a better job than all those detectives.
Also what was the point of having 4 people watching over Claude when all of them fell asleep and were outside the house! That’s not vouching for him! They would’ve gone to a 24/7 dennys and sit there and take pics and video!!
This episode shows what this series is really about. Although I haven't read the book, as a standalone series this is very much a rumination on belief and investigation, a deep dive in the institutional systems that are meant to be preventative, and a harrowing finger point at how even the "good hearted" enforcement officers have tremendous culpability in the continuing unspeakable violence in our society.
I know many of you here found this episode to be too slow for its own good, but I found myself enthralled. Thinking of this on a metaphoric level, I couldn't look away. J.D. Dillard brought a fresh feel to this episode.
Do you guys think the guy playing Ralph is a bad actor? My friend that I watch this with continually makes snark about how flat he is and how unbelievable it is that he'd be a cop with his "aw shucks, I-am-not-emoting-anything" affect.
It’s slow but feels like pure Stephen King at least. With shape shifters and Jack is a Randall Flagg like follower.
So far, this is my favorite Stephen King adaption.

Well, they have actual proof now. So I'm guessing the last two episodes will be entirely focused on trying to find and catch it. And something tells me Ralph still won't believe, which makes one wonder what will happen that does make him believe if that's going to happen. I'm guessing he'll come face to face with it as Claude. Personally, while this episode was enjoyable, these recent episodes haven't been quite as good as when the show started, especially considering there's hardly any mystery left. All that's left to do is move the plot forward, and even then, that won't necessarily make the episodes just as enjoyable as the first few. One thing is certain, though: Without the plot moving forward, even if it is moved, just barely, these more recent episodes, including this one, are more tedious than anything. I think too much was revealed too quickly, and that's the cause for it. At this point, the most prominent feeling towards this show is the feeling of wanting it to be over, and something tells me that feeling is stronger for certain people. Me, while it is present, I'm still invested. But I truly hope the last two episodes are very exciting and exceptional, like with the first few. Either way, I'm looking forward to seeing what will transpire in them, and how it'll all end.
