One of the greatest comedy/drama series of the last few years, I'll never forget it.
Now that the series ended I can say that it worth it from the beginning to the end.
Having completed watching the show, I can't stop marveling at the research, fashion, cinematography, and the cast talent that the show showcased.
Thian is one of the absolutely best, well-written shows of all time, especially the first season when it's all so new and fresh. Also, there are so few shows which are truly engaging but not heavy drama. We all need light viewing sometimes. Highly recommend to everyone and will watch many times in my life, I'm sure.
ugh, cringeworthy and did not get better in season 2. maisel and myerson are so annoying and incompetent. the other storylines were quite alright (joels business, paris, chuck)
Zoe bread tok rec this
It is insane to me how they managed to keep up the quality from start to finish. Amazing show! Big props to everyone involved!
10/10 just superb
Each episode and season gets better and better, leaving you to want more and more…..
Well, almost!!!
Season 5 “the last season”
Is enjoyable and the ending is a suitable goodbye to our two lady’s.
But this season differs from the rest, jumping forward, back, the forward again, something it hasn’t done before.
It feels rushed, let’s get this story completed and to where we want it to be….
I understand the creators wanting to move on and try something new, but in this shows case it’s a shame…..
This show could have gone on for years and years and not lost any of its audience, they could have speeded it up that’s for sure and maybe give us 3 more seasons “ jumping 10yrs with each season”
But we still love the show, the ending was perfect, just we didn’t want it to come so soon…..
An absolutely delightful show with an abundance of wit and charm. One the best-written shows in recent memory.
Miriam is circling, while others are growing up.
Sharply written. Quick and smart dialogue. Interesting scenarios. Above all, simply delightful. A show you can look forward to watching. Never a disappointment.
I like to think that TV, as a medium, has come a long way from what it was about a decade ago, where network TV was still dominant. Now we love that TV is every little bit as good as movies, there are real stories, characters that act like real people (as opposed to characters that act like tv characters), and you wouldn't find it hard to believe that what you're watching is real or could be real (unless the separation from reality is intentional).
Obviously, network TV is still around and despite their best efforts to keep up with the times, this type of content is still being made there, but rarely elsewhere. Plus, the entrance of Netflix and other streaming platforms, including Mrs Maisel's Amazon, has pushed the needle on this front, to the extent that you'd find it hard to believe that a show could be made, netowrk-style, somewhere that is not network TV.
Enter The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, a show that is set 1958 but could've been litterally on air in 1958 and it would fit right in, a show so network TV it's hard to believe that it's on Amazon.
It's not a bad show, per se, it's not doing anything new, really. Amy Sherman Palladino is just doing a period Gilmore Girls with one chick in the lead instead of two. You know, too much dialogue, walk and talk to give the illusion of something is happening when it's not really, and everyone is a cartoonish version of what they're supposed to be (e.g. overly jewish parents), and everything is rosy and nothing is grim about the world that the characters live in.
It's all fine, maybe you like this kind of stuff (which is okay), but I always felt like we have left this stuff behind to real stories with real people with real problems that might not go away magically just like that, which is not the case here, you can always count on the fact that the eponymous Mrs. Maisel would come out on top in almost every episode, which -- frankly -- starts to get annoying real quick.
It's a good show, maybe in 2005. Right now? it's just another brick in the wall.
Amy Sherman-Palladino creates great characters! And, this series has cast actors that excel in filling out her characters, the quirkier, the greater the performance. The production values are high and the wardrobe is magnificent (did Midge ever wear the same outfit twice?). The dialogue holds all the wit, fast moving quips and cultural eggs for which Palladino is known (with GILMORE GIRLS we had to keep on our toes to get all the pop culture references but now we have the instant gratification of Google). If left to these criteria, I would give it the highest of ratings, however, I think the show is devalued by the vulgarity of the humour. Midge is drawn as an intelligent, quick thinking woman, she doesn't need dick jokes to be funny and surely the writers can elevate above lewd and drunken behaviour to get a laugh. (I think it's ironic that Sophie Lennon is the antithesis of Mrs. Maisel yet in many ways the show stoops to the same shortcuts to jokes that is mocked in Sophie.) My mom taught me that foul language and base humour are the hallmark of a lazy mind. Wit can be so much more clever than that. Another annoyance popped up for me in the third season - what's with the long musical numbers? I'm not opposed to a good soundtrack but did the writers get too busy to write dialogue or did they run out of ideas for content? I found myself fast forwarding great swaths of meaningless music that does nothing to advance the plot. So, my rating for this series is 7 (good) out of 10, but it had the potential for so much more. [Comedic Drama]
This show just keeps getting better and better. It touches on a lot of sensitive subjects and handles them gracefully and adds weight to them. All the actors and actresses have great chemistry and Brosnahan just shines brightly. Looking forward to many more seasons to come and Mrs. Maisel's and Susie's rise to success.
My mom and I both adore this show! It is absolutely hilarious and has some of the best comedy acting I've seen. The story is always moving forward, and I also like the location changes. The hype is real; this show is simply excellent.
First season was great but they absolutely killed it with the second one. Can't wait to see where it goes from here.
A refreshing departure from today’s trend that any tv show must picture pseudo-realistically complex lives and be “true” to a our reality. This is a show that aims to entertain by settings us back in the late 1950 both in its pseudo-reality and how the story is told within the truth of a TV Show filmed then and not now.
Some people will criticize it because today we know best, others we’ll take with then that a TV Series made today and remastered in almost a hundred years will look as simplistic as this one to these viewers. While other like me will simply enjoy it as we do watching “Casablanca” today.
WTF is wrong with the writers? The kids are treated like dogs. Why would they do that? They write 2 kids into the show but every scene with them or about them, it’s like the parents think they have pets. Is it supposed to be some sort of a joke I don’t get? Is it a representation of the era? I just don’t get it.
Great second season so far but where are the kids. Who’s taking care off them? That’s one thing I can’t figure out. Why have kids if u don’t want to look after them.
Wow gonna miss these people...
I just loved this show WoW
Can't wait for the next season, and to see this people back...
Overall an entertaining show. My biggest issue is the persistent self sabotage of the majority of the characters. How many times can someone ruin their progress and destroy their own future? Are they successful despite themselves? I found it frustrating to watch the Weissman clan and the Maisels all make stupid mistakes or upend things because they can’t keep quiet even in important circumstances.
Season 5 rated a 8.7
I only have one word to describe this show. Marvelous!!
I wasn't sure what to think about this and held off for years before watching and I regret that decision because this is a hilarious show! While it's over the top Jewish, almost to a fault and to an extreme, the two main stars are outstanding!
Has some flaws, but tbh Gilmore Girls (the way they talk) was my guilty pleasure during the linear TV era...this show is perky(?), funny & heartwarming. EDIT: best way to finish a story. well done, corrected my 7 to an upper eight.
[Prime Video] One of the most relevant series in recent years, a happy place that shows the development of stand up comedy until the appearance of the first late shows in the 60's. Although it has had ups and downs throughout its five seasons, it manages to close splendidly the stories of all the characters. But above all, it celebrates the history of the first comic women who, like Joan Rivers, Mary Tyler Moore or Carol Burnett, opened the doors of comedy to other perspectives. And it achieves a screwball comedy pacing that is unprecedented on current television. The end of the TV Golden Age.
An excellent show. Managed to stay classy for most of its run. The two leads were amazing while the supporting cast were also great.
The jokes, my god, the jokes—every syllable is dead on the comic beat. They’re bitter and bright as a stiff gin cocktail.
Season 1-3 9/10
season 4-5 6/10
Brilliant show but by fourth season it’s become stale & repetitive.
Why is it taking so long for the next season to come?! Just cannot wait
Just finished it. Absolutely loved every minute with all the characters and the story itself was thoroughly enjoyable.

I finished The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel and really enjoyed it. Another great production from "Amazon Studios". Very solid acting all around and I loved how it delved into (aka made fun of) the rich New York Jewish community/stereotype in addition to the standup comedy scene from the late 1950's. The episodes are a bit long at times coming in at a full hour, but the writing and delivery of all the characters is very well done. Rachel Brosnahan who plays the main character, Midge, is hilarious, and plays the Jewish housewife entering a life crisis to the T.
The only disappointing thing is that this show was obviously written as a two season order from the get-go (which it was). Season 1 definitely ends at a pretty big cliffhanger moment with a lot of things kind of hanging in the balance and more story to go, but that's more natural since a second season was already green-lit when this ordered. I would have preferred to get a little more resolution during the season finale, but it does have me wanting/begging for more. I also really wish that it was based on a true story, but alas...
Really looking forward to the second season coming ASAP.
