[5.1/10] I think an insurmountable hurdle for this show for me is going to be that I just don’t find the entire group constantly busting on Andre to be very funny. Sure, the guy is lame and misguided as hell, but he’s generally well-meaning and nice compared to the rest of the assholes who populate the show. So having the show constantly trying to wring laughs from the rest of his friends being dicks to him just does nothing for me.
To the point, the A-story here is basically Pete being a complete asshole to Andre in order to get a girl. I’ll admit, I got some laughs out of how unbelievably horrible Gina is to everyone and everything since it’s taken to an extreme, even for this show, but once it’s turned to an entire dinner table full of people just insulting and humiliating Andre to please here, I tapped out. There’s some juice to the idea of Pete trying to get a revenge date with Gina only to realize he actually likes her (which works since their both awful enough to be a match for one another), but it’s bogged down in pointless Andre-busting.
The B-story is a little better, albeit weird as hell. Kevin having concerns about Ellie growing up too fast, only to get wrapped up in a extortion scam with a ten-year-old who accidentally(?) saw Kevin and Jenny getting amorous is a bizarre and semi-uncomfortable but comically potent setup in the heightened reality of the show. At the same time, I like the continuity that the same teacher who chastised the McArthurs for their bad language is getting another dose of their, shall we say, crude ways to her shock and chagrin.
But the C-story with Ruxin trying to combat his low sperm count is pretty meh. I’ll admit, the scene between Ruxin and his doctor is maybe the funniest in the show’s history, with its examination of Ruxin’s constant lying and arguably his very being. But the entire dog and pony show with Taco taking Ruxin out to eat animal junk to somehow boost is sperm count is just dumb, and doesn't seem like something Ruxin would tolerate. And at the same time, it feels contrived when the show twists to include the results of his and Taco’s hijinks in the Kevin story.
Overall, another episode with a few bright spots, but also with some major weaknesses that bring the whole enterprise down.
