The Idol: Season 1

1x03 Daybreak

  • After three weeks can we all just admit that this is a dud and it's just not gonna happen? I think my curiosity with this show is done, I usually give 3 episodes before deciding if a show is worth it.

  • The Weeknd tries so hard to be edgy that he just comes off as pathetic. Who told him he can act?

  • There's an okay show in here about artist exploitation but it is hampered down by unnecessary sex scenes and this desire to be edgy. I get that Hollywood loves the cliche of "sex sells", but it's just so over the top in this show, especially with the creepy dialogue that the Weekend's character says.

This show is 90% sex and nudity and 10% plot. They’re trying soooo hard to be edgy but it just ends up being sooo cringe. I’m watching for my girl Rachel Sennott and I do wanna see where it ends up but geez The Weeknd’s acting is so bad. I hate when you can TELL someone is acting. Maybe it’s supposed to be bad on purpose to just emphasize how fake/corny the character is but it’s just so embarrassing.

The dinner scene was so uncomfortable so idk if that means they did a good job or a bad job. I’m hoping things turn around for Jocelyn by the end of the season bc absolutely no one is looking out for her.

this is the first time that I did rate a tv serie with 1. zit should be 0. Garbage.

Hilariously bad. At this point I am hate-watching the show. Honestly though, the underlying story isn’t terrible - Jocelyn’s past is the driver for much of her tale so far and when a big part of that past is stolen from her, she becomes unmoored and spirals out of control. One man seizes the moment to manipulate himself into a position of power in Jocelyn’s life. Will he turn out to be the deliverer or the villain?

Sounds great on paper right? If only they cast someone more competent than The Weeknd (wait, he probably cast himself). Think what someone like David Tennant could have done in the role, like he did in Jessica Jones or Bad Samaritan. All the unnecessary sex too. Pah! How many scenes do we need to see to get the point? I definitely don’t need to see The Weeknd beating his meat to understand his character. Just ridiculous. One saving grace is that his music is still excellent, especially in this episode. He probably ruined what he had going in his music career by attempting this. 4/10 episode, probably a 3/10 series so far.

Gonna go watch some Hallmark movies to cleanse my brain.

I was starting to see some kind of plot in the first 2 episodes, I really did. But now I really see this show is going nowhere. its just a weird fetish playground for the weekend to act like a complete creep. At first I thought he was meant to be creepy, but you can tell HE THINKS HE'S COOL.... and its cringe.

Also that Epstein joke - I grew up on some EDGY humor and even I thought that was just in horrid taste.
There is no plot.....
Its just weird torture p*rn.
The Weekend is just weird.

Now I cope and say "hmmm maybe when every episode is out i'll see the whole picture and can maybe the show will be good in context" but I HIGHLY doubt it at this point.

the weeknd is the worst actor I've seen. It's not even acting.

Also the sex scenes are too gross.

The first two were intriguing. This one was just fucking weird.

i cannot believe this is a real tv show and i also cannot believe i watched this fml

I kinda hoped The Weeknds acting would get better...but it's getting worse .. and the weird 80s coke dealing budget pimp fashion styling makes it double awful.

Best episode yet. The dinner scene was great. Anyone still shocked by sex scenes has the mentality of an 80 years old woman.

Go to therapy instead, please

It just gets progressively worse with every episode.

I'm now watching this just to see The Weeknd's character get slapped at the end. I'm worried it won't come though

Pornographic to a level that I cannot comprehend.

I watched like ahhhmm.... This is really tedious
