serena is a case study in cognitive dissonance oh my god
I know to not be shocked by anything Gilead does now, but what possessed them to put a birthing suite at the top of three flights of stairs? I had trouble climbing stairs after 5 months. Forget about labour.
I don't recall a funniest instance of "go to your room". I had to pause for a minute because I knew she would take it hard and my state of mind would take me right out of it.
I can't make up my mind on where Lawrence stands on the asshole scale because he's so cynical it's impossible to grasp his intentions, so we never know for sure until it's done. Bradley plays these characters a bit too well.
Though I think they're giving Lydia the "Serena treatment" as a way to showcase how different true believers engage in cognitive dissonance, I'm not sure I understand where they're going with it. She seems to be a reformist now, but it's odd since she seemed just fine with everything after several of "her girls" being punished, often by her hand. There wasn't a significant "come to Jesus" moment to sell it, even after she almost died, so I dunno... I guess I had thought she was going the Fred route (alternatively, the "Serena trying to speak out without being a Wife" route), which would have been entirely deserved, but now that seems unlikely.
I guessed the ending but we still maybe surprised which way Serena is gonna drive
The writing is so sloppy and lazy. Some of these scenes could have been great, but they're simply not earned.
If ever there was a perfect "What the fuck, well, shit..." moment, this episode would be it, yes, the entire episode.
Jesus just kill June already.
Not that I could have come up with better plot lines, but this show is reminding me of Killing Eve now.
By far better than the previous episodes... might be because the focus is back on Gilead.
Well, that Lydia's ideas are a bit screwed up has been obvious for quite some time... but being so enraged by rape, but not by the institutionalized rape, i.e. "ceremony", is so ludicrous it's almost funny. And not in a ha-ha-way. Still, the first thing she asked Esther was if she in any way provoked Putnam... as if her reaction, namely trying to kill herself, didn't already answer that question. Liked Lydia and Lawrence's conversation, his "don't care" on the one hand, on the other hand he himself was forced into the ceremony by the Waterfords earlier which contributed to his wife's death. I don't condone the "eye for an eye"-mentality in any way, but I'm glad Putnam finally got his comeuppance, "the rape of unassigned property"... I could vomit.
Serena gets a taste of being a handmaid - well, not the rapes per se, although that exam was a tad uncomfortable to watch, but being imprisoned and not having any say about your own movements.
Who exactly is that Wheeler guy that he holds more of a sway over those outlaws in the no-man's land than Gilead? And still, he is manipulated by Serena into letting her go, ostensibly so that she can watch June die. Well, it doesn't quite work out like that. Which was also clear from the outset.
And I'm sorry to say, but Luke's whimp. First he wants to prove how courageous he is by going into no man's land... then he gets panic attacks and loses his head. Loved the contrast between him, who's essentially seen nothing so far, and June who's experienced more cruelty and violence than most can endure.
This is the first time that I've been rooting for Lydia. Well done; justice!

Aunt Lydia while raising the girls to be raped regularly: "GOD'S WISHES GIRLS LET'S BEHAVE OUR BEST"
Aunt Lydia when Esther says she was raped: "NO :O THAT'S TERRIBLE :O"
Also, the horror that grows slowly inside Serena is top notch. I'm enjoying the storyline of Serena and Aunt Lydia much more this season. I guess June was more horrified to get in the car with Serena than to get shot lol. SERENAWHATTHEFUCKAREYOUDOING?
