Why did they do that?
So will she now proclaim his cause of death as “hemorrhoidal colic”?
This episode threw us into literal disbelief for a solid 15 minutes. That was true cinematic genius, transitioning into one of the purest expressions of the different types of grief I have ever seen.
Wonderful
What the flying fuck is happening
I'm lying on my couch like I'm lying in the snow on the edge of a frozen lake looking up at the sky.
i had taken a survey last year gauging audience feelings about the characters and one line of questioning was whether i would stop watching if such and such characters died and i also knew the history and wondered how off script they could possibly go considering much was already just absurdist unreality... and it happened and then i didn't believe it like the characters lol. i wish i was sad, i may have to rewatch it to register
Marvelous! I did not think that so soon after Succession (not writing episode number, you know which one if you saw it) I'm going to see something trying to evalute the fragility of life, no so much behind in the same capacity. Because first of all, it was a great move that they didn't make Peter's death a tragedy for Catherine as it seemed in the very beginning, asking later on how would it look if she would fall in love with a bad person and how much real tragedy would it be there for her to kill him? Instead they turned this into a tragedy of Peter, the bad person trying to overcome his flaws in his own ways, but still meeting his doom because of the things he could not let go of. And I mentioned here before the thing this show is very good at: it's about instincts and how people go up against them or go with them, and Peter's death - Peter embodying a moral compass for many - brings that out of everyone. Catherine, already on edge of her progressive ideas because manipulations and her love for Peter, simply goes mad. Grigor wants to confide in everyone he meets to replace Peter ending up the closes to it: Georgina. Hugo and Velementov are only strengtened on their path by his death, and Georgina (slowly, but surely coming for Elizabeth's MVP title) finally gets her long game payed off. The death of a central de facto (im)moral compass, but just like in Succession, it's not amazing just because of the what but of the how. Jumping between the calm and silent moments to the maddening laughs of disbelief, every reaction is earned, and there's only a little time wasted to bring the storylines of Georgina, Marial and Archie connecting together with the rest. This show is not about tragedies, but about bittersweet realisations of the limits of characters, and their instincts framed and recontextualized by nuances to make everything work. But I'll be damned, they work really hard to turn it into a well earned tragedy, and first with Orlov, now with Peter they keep getting closer to it. After Orlo's death I guessed it might be Elizabeth's turn next, and I would not think of Peter's. Now I make my bet on Archie, I can't wait to see how wrong I am.
P.S.: Elle Fanning's acting is turning into a force to be reckoned with, like woah
I read a comment on Instagram spoiling the death. But I didn't expect it to be so... uneventful.

this episode literally destroyed me
I had a hunch that this might be Nicholas Hoult’s last season with the show (due to the fact that his movie career is ramping up)
but man I did not expect his death to come in the middle of the season!!!!!!!! what a shock
Peter the third you will be truly missed :broken_heart:
