Folks wanted a better Bortles reaction, did that suffice?
I'll keep it short to quickly say how much I love watching Manny Jacinto's "Jason" - it's clearly his delivery that makes what he says so simultaneously funny and lovable. Happy to have Jason & (Good) Janet together again too!
[7.4/10] It’s hard to go back to a place that was once your home, as what feels like a different person. It’s especially hard for Michael, whose return to The Bad Place is a reminder of the demon he used to be, the torture he used to enact. The Good Place wants to play it both ways a little -- having The Bad Place’s tortures seem more comical and annoying that outright horrible, but leaving Michael with pangs of guilt for his role in them.
Still, it’s a relatable feeling (one the show implicitly likens to a high school reunion), and Michael’s pleas to his former colleagues that they toto can change, and his light absolution from jason that he’s no longer that person, are nice places to take the story.
But apart from the internal arc stuff, the Janet caper is just good fun. Michael and Jason having to pretend to be Vicki and Glenn, and crashing “Demoncon” to save Janet makes for a good set piece with a number of cool twists and turns. Jason putting his impulse control in place, expressing his love for Janet, and getting the traditional “not a girl” back is its own form of heartening. And the gags, like the references to Kevin Spacey’s weird video, or the crowd clapping for pretty much everything, are good chuckles.
The show finds interesting things to do back at the Fake Good Place as well. Eleanor trying to keep everyone occupied while Derek struggles to keep the neighborhood functioning without Janet makes for some good chaos. And Chidi’s excitement at the prospect of a puzzle is hilarious.
But the B-story belongs to Tahani. The episode makes the good choice to have her straining to rise above her party-planning past to do something more meaningful when things are in crisis. That ignores a lot of what she’s already accomplished over the course of the series, but still, it’s a good beat for her. There’s a lot of laughs from her overzealous efforts to help (her off-the-cuff description of a stabbed horse is a dark but hearty laugh), and I like Eleanor reassuring her that she gave Tahani the lakehouse party job because she trusts her with the four people on whom the fate of all humanity rests. It’s a nice way to show Tahani striving for more while also affirming what she already is and is capable of.
Overall, this is another solid episode that didn’t knock my socks off, but which does good work for pretty much every major character on the show.

Oh, how I've missed these subtle little jokes! This season has been a slow burner, but after a rather underwhelming start, The Good Place is finally picking up the pace and returning to its former funnier self.
The Bad Place never disappoints (except for the fact that they never spend much time there), hilarity always ensues whenever the gang ends up in the worst corner of the universe. Despite the occasionally more serious tone of the episode regarding Michael facing his demons from the past (pun intended), this episode never quit shoving laughs down our throats! And Derek... Always a wonderful, bonkers and totally nuts presence on screen, I'm glad we got more of him on this one.
But if there's one thing this episode showed us — for the nth time — is how adorable and precious and obliviously hilarious Jason is. Truly my favourite character throughout these four seasons.
FOOOOOOOOOLES!!
'What in the name of "Kevin Spacey’s self-made Christmas Eve video message to try to get back on House of Cards" is going on here'?! I see what you did there!
So Michael can just wave his hand amd give memories back? Then why use the device on Eleanor? She ended up losing her hair amd teeth. Jason got dizzy for a second. WTF? Come on writers, consistency isn't that hard. You botched the lie detector in the previous episode by not using the perfectly functional one from season 1. Now this? Lame.
firstword. This thing is unwatchable.
"...sexy, bad-girl sister-aunt."
"Eww." Ditto.
The CGI and green-screen in this show are still super-obvious, but I think the demons usually look pretty good.
This was the best episode of the season so far. Glad it resolved one area of drama that was slightly bringing down the beginning of the season. Everything seems to be going well now, which means everything will soon go to crap (talking about the events within the show, not the show itself). And I would be interested to see Tahani learn some real-world experiences. She's my least favorite in the gang, so showing her some "commoner" skills might make her more likable in my eyes...

I need more Eleanor-Tahani scenes! Tahani is such an underrated character but I’m glad Eleanor reminded her that she is a lot more helpful than she would think.

"What in the name of Kevin Spacey’s self-made Christmas Eve video message to try to get back on House of Cards is going on here?" A+ line.
