I am all in. This is the character Bell is meant to play. I'll be giving it a full season to see how well it develops around her performance. Not perfect but at least its fresh.
The show had its ups and downs through its season, but the final two episodes were game changers and made up for every little bad thing. The show is amazing and can't wait for next season.
Greater than the sum of its parts.
I don't think I've ever rated a show higher than I rated each individual season, but this show take all its disparate, less-than-perfect pieces and makes one of the best artistic expressions of human experience I've ever seen. Touching on philosophy from all angles,[I'm going to spoiler tag this section, because it talks about the philosophical ideas of the ending, but won't contain overt plot spoilers.] and settling on lessons everyone should learn about compassion towards your fellow man (even the Brents of the world, even if you know they cant be allowed to treat people the way they do, they are still people and still capable of good), on the knowledge that oblivion and mortality give meaning to life, and shows both in story and in practice, that it's better to know when it's time for something to end.
Honestly, I truly hope that this series has an effect on people. It touches on so many topics with grace, and while it does so with a bit too much of that tongue-in-cheek political correctness, its biggest lessons are right on the money.
The final season constantly busts out tearjerkers, and I am so glad the creators realized that good things must end. So many shows, even my favourite ones, have had mediocre endings and didn't know where to go with themselves, but culminating everything in one big hour long special epilogue was a perfect ending.
I hope this series is the Doug Forcett of our universe.

This show is pure joy. Last Season is the proof of how this series became more interesting each season. I love every single character and I couldn't ask more. So sad that it ended.
So good! For a lighthearted show, I did not expect there to be that big of a plot twist. The character dynamic is so fun to watch. It’s a good easy show to get into. Doesn’t require much thought.
This is definitely my favorite comfort show. I love the deep message it wanna portrays and the actors gave justice to their characters! I love this so so much and I am so in awe of the last episode. Definitely worth watching and recommending!

i just recently discovered it from YouTube so I know most of the spoiler but still it's so funny especially the way they deliver each line.
A trip. Easily one of my favorite comedy shows out there. The cast is wonderful, they have great chemistry that really comes across the screen making the characters even more lovable than they already are. Even the 'bad guys' in this show are worth rooting for because they are all so much fun!
One of the great things about The Good Place is that it is so fast paced. They throw a twist at you and you don't have to wait episodes or seasons for the next bit. Especially with all the reboots. So many reboots! So many times our characters have to learn about each other again but it doesn't get boring or frustrating because they solve it quickly.
I'm just sad it's over and I won't get to watch it again with the first time watcher experience.
Snappy dialogue and a premise that hits on an existential level. It's best to go into this show with no spoilers, so just take a dive on in.

I got to admit I was sold the minute I realized this if from the guy who also did Nine Nine. Took me a while to hop on board this train but I am not disappointed at all!
I started watching for Kristen Bell but by the third episode I had already fallen deeply in love with all of the cast members and the characters they portray. They're a lovable bunch!
Now, normally I hate the 'memory loss' - or in this case memory reset/reboot - arc but this show managed to make it enjoyable while also doing it over and over and over again! I think what worked here is that while they lose their memory they're always quickly finding each other again and it instantly feels like it doesn't matter if certain aspects are now different. At the core these four people will always find each other in the same way.
Really, really good show. It starts a litle slow and weird, but second season is AMAZING and the last season is great and emotive.
Overall the Good Place is a decent show with some ups and downs. It has some cringey moment but then some moments that are heartwarming to. In my opinion the 2md season was a struggle to get through but it is well worth doing to get to the much better 3rd and 4th seasons. I think the four main characters worked well together and I was very attached by the end of this pretty well written show.
The Good Place is a great show. Well worth watching. There are twists and turns of a major and minor sort but the show had incredible steam through those twists managing to keep a cool head on it's shoulders and still keep fighting even after it's strongest punch. The characters are lovable. Our four primary humans are a small cast but we get to know them well. We get to see them in all sorts of alternate versions as they pretend to be other people and actually become other people. And as much as I like symmetry I like that the show takes a few chances with the balance and doesn't waffle back and forth on it. I didn't approve of all of them but they are consistent and the relationships do feel real even if some of them are unbelievable. The cast is diverse as befitting the theme and the stories are thematic. There's not a lot of variety but there is a central focus. It doesn't meander very much which is awesome. There's very few episodes which one could call filler. Even if there are arcs and entire seasons you might not like.
And last but not least the humor never stops. It's a sitcom about moral philosophy and while that's played for laughs in Season 1, it's still played for laughs in Season 4. Just now with some heart. It's a great show that doesn't stick the landing at the end but had such a strong performance it never needed to.

I've been watching this serie since the begining, it's nice, funny, short episodes so you don't have to spend a lot of time to enjoy, It ends well you don't stay on your hunger. Thank you for this little journey at the good place :) .

I wanted to love this because of Kristen but I just can't. It just feels all over the place and nowhere at all at the same time.
The best comedy that debuted this fall. Definitely not for average viewers though. It will be a critical darling, but unfortunately not a hit.
Wasted comedic actor potential. Extremely surprised the Cheers guy and the female lead would stoop to the level of Good Place -- seems like the next stop for them will be as contestants on "Dancing with the Stars"... ;-)
Generic, predictable, unfunny and full of cliches -- seems very much like a Hulu-only series, which is likely where the remaining episodes will stream once low ratings result in early network TV cancellation.

Once again, Show that is totally POSITIVE :) it reminds me of Eureka but without SF :) I like it because after watching it I feel good and positive :) It's not masterpiece but I rate shows and movies based on my connection to them.

The ride is fun. Ted Danson (Michael) was a nice treat, and I'll hopefully find some more things in which to watch William Jackson Harper (Chidi) perform. Just don't expect rock-solid philosophy; the last season really left some holes there, I thought.

Season one was amazing and holy shit, that twist at the end! Season two became a bit of a slog and I feel like it didn't utilize the potential the twist gave the show, but right when I was losing interest in the show, they brought it again with another huge game changing twist in the season two finale! Literally have no idea what to expect for season three but I am hyped!

I had to stop watching after 10 minutes. This for me is just not a good show.
In "The Good Place," we follow the journey of a woman mistakenly sent to paradise instead of hell, as she endeavors to become a better person while remaining undercover. The show's core dynamics and world-building are enchanting, although some of the humor, especially with characters like Jianyu, can become repetitive. Nonetheless, the blend of jokes and pop culture references remains largely enjoyable. I appreciate how the series presents ethical dilemmas and philosophical viewpoints without feeling like a lecture. While there are moments of oversimplification, they don't detract from the show's substance and relatability. The protagonist’s flaws might feel caricatural, but they perfectly exemplify our human inclination to make mistakes despite our awareness of basic moral codes.
The first season exposes some contradictions that are ultimately addressed in the finale, along with a clever twist that sets the stage for multiple seasons of compelling storytelling. From the second season onwards, the show undergoes frequent changes, with many mid-season episodes altering the status quo to such a degree that they could pass as season finales. Thanks to this tendency to continuously shake things up, the series manages to stay fresh without succumbing to the fatigue typical of long-running shows.
My only complaint is the prominence of love interests in the plot despite the apparent lack of chemistry between the characters. They all feel like good friends but never believable lovers. While all characters are indeed likable, maintaining the focus on all four proved challenging. Although Michael, Janet, and Eleanor shine as the most memorable characters, the others often feel too caricatural, serving the same jokes each time and quickly running out of steam. Despite this, I would still recommend "The Good Place" as one of the most consistent, lightheartedly fun, and still somehow thought-provoking, comedies out there.

Started out so good. Left you anticipating the next episode. Great mix of comedy. Plot was easy to follow. Then it slowly derailed.
This show is amazing and had me emotionally invested throughout the entire series. The 2 main emotions it invoked the most was sadness and happiness. Jason was my favorite character as I felt he was the funniest but it might be because I'm from Florida though. I'll definitely recommend this show to people who ask for show recommendations.
My expectations weren't all that high, but this show is great. It reminds me of Upload in a way, but better and more fun. It really picks up the last few episodes of season 1 and it keeps going at a stellar pace. Honestly, the worst part for me was Jason. His dumbness was taken a bit too far at times. All the others characters had really fun arcs and you watch them grow as the seasons go along. They even sticked the sendoff in the last episode. This show deserves a spot in The Good Place.

I really struggled watching the first season. It was really hard for me to connect and it seemed too stupid to bother continue watching. Eventually I managed to get through it and just now finished the first season - and it actually was quite fun!! So, push through!!

Eleanor is such an annoying main character. She is never funny nor interesting. She really just takes up screen time.
It's a good thing the rest of the cast has good characters. Michael, Chidi, Tehani, Jason, Janet, Sean... everyone else.
Except Mindy. Mindy is good in small doses, but there only so many ways cocaine and masterbation can be mentioned without getting old.
It was a good show very enjoyable story line
As an atheist, it's funny to me that I really enjoy certain shows about the afterlife such as The Good Place and Dead Like Me. I suppose it's a lot like the appeal of sci-fi. The writers start with a wild hypothetical premise, and then they think it through and explore all the implications and possibilities. And this experience often leads to insights about life in the real world.
At its best, The Good Place takes its starting idea about the afterlife and really pushes that idea to its limit. And when the idea starts breaking down they introduce a new twist every season to take it someplace new. Along the way they explore many ideas about philosophy and ethics, all in a format that is fun, fast-paced and highly accessible. It's almost miraculous they could make this idea work as a network TV sitcom.
The writing is full of clever touches. Janet as the not-a-girl not-a-robot all-knowing assistant is such an original character and a real highlight for me. Chidi and Eleanor are the heart of the story and keep us emotionally engaged despite the high-concept nature of the show. One other standout character is Jason, who delivers some of the biggest surprises just when you think he's becoming too dumb and predictable.
However, the writing of the characters can also be a weakness. They are sometimes drawn too simply, like characters on a children's cartoon show. Chidi is the nervous one, Tahani is haughty, Jason is dumb, etc. The reactions they have to situations often just follow those characterizations, and the attempts at humor are often just references to these qualities. It's corny, unfunny, and at times made me feel disconnected from the story. And this gets even worse for many of the show's minor characters, who don't get much screen time and are defined by their overarching adjective.
This simplistic rendering of the characters may have been a conscious choice by the writers. Since the show is so different and so out there by prime time standards, maybe they drew the characters this way to make it easier for audiences to follow. But it's the biggest shortcoming of the show to me.
The finale is wonderfully done and really satisfying. I can't imagine it ending any other way.

I honestly really love that show so much. I watched it when it aired but it's even better watching it all back to back because the whole storyline flows so seamlessly. Sure, things can seem a little uneven because while the theme is always at the center of the story, the ways of exploring it change a lot from going to the bad place to going to earth to helping others on earth and helping others in the after life. Overall, it's just solid. The relationships between the characters make sense because they're not pushed too hard. Characters stay true to who they are and the cast is just exceptionnal all around. Characters like Janet and the Judge are classics people will not forget soon!
One of the best comedy shows there is, definitely recommend to anyone. My face is totally forked up from crying so much in the series finale.

At this point, NBC has nailed the half hour sitcom. While this show never hits the highs of some of the other shows (The Office, Parks & Rec, etc), it was thoroughly enjoyable. The seasons were short, concise, and actually told more of a singular story than many of the other comedies. I highly recommend everyone to at least give this show a whirl...but at this point it is pretty safe to say that if you like NBC sitcoms, then this is a must see.

I've been skeptical about this show from the start, as it's so lightweight and focused much on a pop-culture with all that US-celebrity-posh slang or whatever, that it was even hard to find a point in this story. But after they started to involve philosophy studies also after certain plot twists, things got more interesting for sure, they really touched good points of morality and I've become interested on what's happen next.
Disappointing. Couldnt watch more than 8ep. I can see the appeal , but it was not for me. The characters all seemed one note and that would have been fine if that one note was interesting , but it wasnt. None of the jokes landed for me and the plot just seemed to stretch itself too much. Also it felt really preachy and trying to be deep and complex , but it just didnt work for me. People throw around fancy terms and use "good" and "bad" in such weird ways that i couldnt help but feel that it was a bit too on the nose. I can understand why ppl like it but this was just a huge let down for me.
Watched this in a stressed-out haze. It feels like Pushing Daisies but with a willingness to explore evergreen questions like "does it count if I do the right thing with the wrong intention" - it makes moral philosophy somewhat approachable, at least. The show overall does go on a lot longer than I expected, though; had my doubts about Season 3, but hey: I finished watching the lot.

This is show was really one of the uplifting show.This show taught us many things about humanity and just one simple push can make a bad person to a good one.We learn all the things with comedy and we also learn ethics and it wasn't boring in the show:sweat_smile:.At the end of the day we all will miss this show

I rarely watch comedies, but the sci-fi and supernatural element gave me the push to try it and I’m so glad I did.
I didn’t realise when I started watching it had several seasons. It’s a simple, yet a cleverly complex plot and really didn’t see how they’d continue with further seasons without it being a repeat of previous episodes, but they did with some genius writing.
I love all the twists and turns. Even although it’s a bit like Groundhog Day, it never gets boring.
A great line up of cast, who play the characters brilliantly. I normally find someone annoying in every show I watch, but for a change I didn’t, which is very refreshing. Ted Danson is fantastic!
It’s good old silly, slapstick humour and childish too, which I love it. It’s just so easy to watch with a continued smile and wonderment of what ridiculous plot awaits.
I normally find comedy cheesy or forced, but this has given me interest in finding shows that are just as funny.
I can imagine the cast really enjoyed filming this, and perhaps that is why it comes across so well.
I hope others enjoy it as much as I have :)
The Good Place is special and although I've been incredibly critical of what is, by all accounts, a smash hit, that does not take away from its strongest pieces: a heartfelt focus on acceptance and inclusivity and an aggressive stance on progressive social values. It has a lot of good going for it. The jokes are often incredibly odd, the performances are solid, and it does want to to do something unique.
But in the era of Shur's dominance of television sitcoms, The Good Place always fell solidly in the middle ground for me. I never felt entirely sure that the plotting was executed at a even pace (even though I respect the gamble of the first season), the jokes fall SO heavily on the reference side of things at times, and visually it's a bit garish (even though I do understand it's an implicit play on even lighting of other sitcoms). It's fine. Not my favorite. Falls in line tonally with the last season of Parks and Recreation for me.
A cute, quirky show - with tons of heart - that wasn’t always perfect, but ended perfectly. Definitely well worth the binge.

I have to be perfectly honest. I don't know why I like this show. It's in no way a theological treatise on heaven and hell, salvation and damnation or even good versus bad. It's corny. It mocks much that I hold holy and it totally affirms that heaven is a reward for good behaviour, which it patently isn't. But, it has Kristen Bell and a great supporting cast. It has people who learn to care for each other that we learn to care about. It can be very clever while. at the same time, being very silly. I guess, for no sustainably good reason, I just like it. I give the series a 7 (good) out of 10. [SitCom]

Likable and has funny moments. A few great twists which does not take you where you thought you'd be. A little slow moving and at times anticlimactic. Characters while a little dull and silly do achieve some level of interesting dynamic.
Good show, would give it 8/10 but it I am taking two stars away for the feminist commentary, so 6/10
One of the most creative, original, heartwarming and yet very funny sitcoms I have ever watched in my entire life.
To be honest, I think the show is little dull, not that funny, with long predictible plots. But the characters are great and lovable, I also like its happy setting and I'm curious how the plot will develop.
I love Andrew's mention of a fast-food kitchen, because that sums up what I think of the show - fast-food. Not that good, full of empty calor... minutes, but for some reason you can't get enough of it.

Mike Schur keeps creating my ideal show. I keep thinking I've reached my peak of how much I could love a show; of how much joy a television show could bring me with Parks and Rec, then Brooklyn Nine-Nine, but I was wrong. I was so wrong. It's smart, hilarious, and endearing, but mostly importantly, it's got that Mike Schur touch.
After the first episode you think you know how each episode is going to go. The second episode confirms this assumption. But gradually the show goes off that path, and by the end of the season you realize that what you thought this show was going to be about — it was never part of the plan. And you're excited to see where it goes next, because you have no idea any more.
The show starts off looking like a total cliche, with a somewhat unsympathetic main character (even though she's Kristen Bell), and lots of people are going to drop it thinking there's nothing there. It couldn't be more deceiving, and, looking back, I love that deceit, but I'm afraid this might come at the expense of losing quite a good number of viewers on those early episodes.
I love the show! It reminds me of the old vaudeville style TV comedies but without the frustration! I just hope that they manage to keep the show interesting.
