A much more enjoyable episode again this week. Seeing the connection to the Mandalorian was great and it was interesting to see how Boba saved Fennec's life.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. The flashbacks are the juicy story elements for me every time. When the episode focuses more on the flashbacks I find myself enjoying the show a lot more. The present-day plot is sooooooooo slow to the point where I think every episode except for maybe episodes 6 and 7 will continue to just be setups for the "final battle" where all hell will break loose.
Also I'm hyped to see Din Djarin next episode. That Mandalorian theme was a dead giveaway!
Again the show delves into the past and is all the more better for it.
And, man, do I hope the music at the final scene means what I hope it does.
The whole mafia thing is the least interesting part of the show.
very enjoyable episode.. I personally like Boba's flashbacks and it seems this is the last time we will see them
the thing with cyberpunk type of sh*t I really don't like
it feels out of place for a star wars even tho anything is possible in this vast universe
overall the show is very fun, slow paced but still fun
Much better this time around... a chef and sous-chef robots are the weird Star Wars things that i live for, not vespa-riding bike gangs
[7.4/10] This episode was well-made, well-acted, well-designed, and well-staged. Watching Boba Fett and Fennec Shand take down a kitchen’s worth of droids, or retrieve Slave I from Jabba’s Palace (er, Bib’s Palace I suppose?), or go hand-to-hand with some Gamoreons is all good stuff. Temura Morison and Ming-Na Wen continue to have a good shared on-screen presence together. And it’s nice to have the show, however bluntly, basically tell the audience “The flashback sequences are over now.”
But more than any other episode in the show, this one feel perfunctory. There’s no burning emotional question to be answered here, no broader character journey taken. Instead there’s fairly mechanical questions asked. How did Fett link up with Shand? How did she recover? How did he get his ship back?
THere’s nothing wrong with the answers “The Gathering Storm” offers for these questions, but they feel almost perfunctory. The answers are: 1. He found her, 2. He got her repaired at a mod bar, 3. He stole it back from Bib Fortuna’s stronghold. There’s nothing particularly interesting revealed in any of that. It’s more of a gap-filling from what we saw of the two of them in The Mandalorian. And while the material is solid, I’m always leery when Star Wars gets into perfunctory gap-filling mode. If the answers to the “How did they get the thing?” questions don’t have some deeper meaning, they feel hollow, contrived, or pointless. (See also: Most of Solo.)
The closest to something deeper we get here is an explanation of why Fett would help Shand in the first place, and why he wants to start his own house. The notion that he wants to take back his stuff and settle some scores, but needs other muscle and brains to be able to do it, is a solid one for why the bounty hunter would try to ally with an assassin. Shand deciding to stick around out of gratitude for him saving her life and recognizing his talents and loyalty does help cement their relationship, and it’s some combination of understated and undercooked.
Likewise, there’s something to be said for the idea that Boba recognizes that after his experiences with the Tuskens, he won’t get far without a tribe. He doesn’t think he can be a lone wolf anymore, and given his shitty experiences as a bounty hunter, he recognizes that it can all be done better, for the benefit of working stiffs like them. Again it’s simple stuff, but it’s good enough.
There’s just not much to the flashback portions of this one beyond showing how the pieces moved from one part of the board to the other. In the same vein, the present day portions of the episode are mainly piece-moving for the future, setting up the contours of a war with the Pykes and a tease for Mando coming into the fold. It’s not bad by any stretch, but there’s a table-setting vibe to all of it.
I don’t really mind it for an episode. The show did bring in Kevin Tancharoen, who has experience shooting Ming-Na Wen from Agents of Shield, so that’s nice. But there’s less that’s momentous in this episode than there are things that feel sound but mechanical. Hopefully now that the flashback sections are done, the show can start moving the ball forward with a little more conviction.
I’m really not liking this show. It’s more or less like The Mandalorian but with a less likeable and charismatic main protagonist. Makes me wish constantly that I was watching Mandalorian.
This is the episode that I've been waiting for! I was interested in seeing the story of Boba rescuing Fennec. Jon Favreau and company did an excellent job as always.
Soundtrack is fantastic. This isn't limited to the Morricone-ish pieces. Especially that techno music at the doctor's office (sounds like a muffled tribute to The Prodigy's Fat of the Land). You don't need to like electronic music to appreciate how well it suits this scene.
Better than last episode. Still, I'm not really interested in his life as a Mafia boss. The past story is so much better. Best part: the little service robot in the kitchen. That's adorable.
I really enjoyed this episode. We finally got to see how Boba Fett came to save Fennec. I also loved the revisiting of the Sarlacc Pit which was an amazing scene. Also as a big fan of the Slave I (Boba‘s ship) the episode was especially interesting as we got to see the ship in a lot more action than usual. As the ending promises the return of another beloved character I‘m really excited for next week.
THE BUNNY DROID THING LMAO
It's really something to see Boba Fett revisiting scenes from a movie that was filmed 40 years ago.
Krrsantan cool af, glad we'll be seeing more of him. This series is really making the most of Star Wars and its lore. The Streaming Wars are at least good for something.
Getting the Nikto riders back was sweet.
Fun! I think The Book of the Boba Fett continues to struggle to find purpose outside of checking some requisite boxes, but if all it wants this time is to deliver some fun action sequences and cool ideas then on that on front it succeeds. Most of this time is dedicated to showcasing how Boba and Fennec's partnership came to be and while I don't know if that story 100% needed to be told (especially since The Mandalorian did the job well in 30 seconds) I do like how they tell it. We finally have the reason why Boba Fett is doing what he is doing, and it's all due, like we suspected, because of the Tuskens, and more specifically his reappraisal of bounty hunting in general. It's a great direction for the character, I just wish it didn't take this long to get to it.
As for everything else, there is a ton of juicy action in this. The heist to rescue the Slave 1 is a fun setpiece (especially the chef droid which is both hilarious and inventive), and everything with the Sarlacc is genuinely inspired. The present day stuff is mostly more table setting, though Black Krrsantan getting more screentime is always a good thing. A solid time!
I absolutely loved this episode! In this week's flash back (which takes up most of this episode), it depicts how Boba Fett met Fennec Shand, and how they ended up becoming partners. In present day, Boba vows to take down the Pyke Syndicate on Tatooine. We also get to see more Krrsantan being a badass (as well as him ripping someone's arm off!) I can't wait to see where this show goes next!
I really liked this one, the best for me so far.
Superb episode, so much better than the car crash that was the previous episode of fluorescent Vespa biker gangs. Keep it up, absolutely brilliant
Much better episode, although I kinda wish they’d have just told the story in sequence instead of through bacta tank flashbacks. Overall this is still a solid meh for me, but I’ll keep watching.
Several very cool set-ups in this one. It’s a little vague where things are going, but as long as there is cool Star Wars stuff in each one it’s just not going to hurt much if some parts fall a bit flat.
I'm getting tired of this show now.
5/10
please, no more power rangers biker gang
Another nice episode.
Looks like they did use an animatronic for that cool animal that Boba Fett rode (a Bantha - they look and move so cool IMO). The short scene were it ate the food that Boba Fett threw in its mouth was really off (animation wise). The rest of the scenes were nice.
Some more cyberpunk and it's cool that Fennec is a cyborg.
The lights on Fennec's drone seem really counterproductive.
And also a lot of funny moments:
The electronic scope on that rifle sucks.
A surveillance drone that has three bright ass red lights on it lol
I enjoyed the episode very much, though there were some parts that seemed a bit illogical. The episode tells the story of how Boba found the dying Fennec and saved her life, taking her to the people who install the mechanical modification in their bodies. The girl that joins Boba's team in previous episode is shown in the background in this scene. Fennec now has a lot of tubes and wires in her tummy and I guess it may be rather impractical in combat situations, since she would be killed if these modifications were damaged? It also seems a bit stretched that she does not need any time to convalescence and is almost immediately ready to fight, moreover, she excels at it. Boba promises that he would let her go if she helps him to recover his spaceship, but in the end it turns out that Fennec started to like him and stays with him of her own volition. Boba kills all the speeder bikers responsible for the death of the Tuskens, and decides to revisit the place called the sarlac pit, where he assumes his armour is left (he doesn't know that the Jawas stole his armour while he was unconscious). I am not familiar with Star Wars lore, but it seems that the sarlac thing is some kind of the monster, and the protagonists almost get killed when it turns out that the creature is alive after all, I got some scare-jumps when it attacked them, which rarely happens to me when I watch shows ;) Thanks to Fennec's quick thinking, they kill the monster and later on, Boba offers Fennec partnership, based on mutual loyalty. Boba claims that living with the Tuskens taught them that an effective community must be based on family-like ties and he now aims to recreate it. Back in present time ;) Boba recruits the wayward Wookie to join his team, and organises a meeting with local leaders, asking them to support him in his war against the Pykes. However, they only agree to remain neutral and not to join the Pykes. There is the theme from "The Mandalorian" at the very end of the episode, so I hope Mando will have a cameo in the next episode. I like Boba but I rather miss Mando and the Baby :)
