Good show that we binged in a couple of days. A little bit of everything - comedy, crime, redemption and mystery all lighthearted and doesn't take itself too seriously - but not tacky and silly.
8/10
It is the story of how "The Artful Dodger" sheds his sobriquet and reinvents himself as "The Artful Doctor", only to find himself in the midst of planned crime brought about by familiar company from the Dickensian setting; whether he would fall to that temptation of the world he has chosen to leave behind or pursue his new life and a romance brought about in a medical setting of Australia in the 1800s, forms the plot of the series and its adventure. The last two episodes of the first season, brings about, quite literally and figuratively, a "Twist" very unexpected; leading us to a climax that teases a chance for a second season, literally held by the knot of a thread...
It is brilliant to reimagine characters and give a classic a new lease of life... Charles Dickens would be proud of this deferred adaptation... the chemistry between Jack and Belle, set in the early nineteenth century, is totally believable... I would rate this 8/9, but am rating it 10 because the current rating of 5-something is ridiculous and real stupid.
I think this is going to be my TV show of the year. I cannot even begin to describe how intense, emotional and tight this show is. I am a sucker for period pieces, and I am a sucker for a good romantic storyline, but this was done in a way that had me on the edge of my seat wanting more at the end of every episode. If you have any interest in a good period piece please watch this show. If you're an Austen fan, if you're wanting a good drama with a really well written story, please watch this show. Just amazing.
Repetitive drivel that's ocassionaly entertaining.
To be clear, this in no way tells the traditional story of Oliver, Dodger and the gang, and is a comedy "sequel" that uses the original as a backstory. This has allowed the freedom to create an amazing, light-hearted but not comedic family-friendly drama. The casting is top notch; Thomas Brodie Sangster is, as always, a true joy to watch, whatever he is in; a truly beautiful, talented actor with the most amazing eyes! He performs eloquently in his role as Jack Dawkins, who has successfully reformed into a talented young surgeon, and is far from the old life until Fagin shows up on the scene again, whereupon events predictably start taking a very artfully dodgy and dangerous course once again. Thewlis, a fine and versatile actor, shows just how different he can be from the likes of Ares (Justice League) or Professor Lupin (Harry Potter films) with one of the best versions of Fagin that I have ever seen (and I have seen so many, over the years). Eccleston did a fine job as a comedy Fagin in the "Dodger" series (also well worth watching), but Thewlis definitely steals the crown here. Maia Mitchell is delightful as Lady Belle, and Damon Herriman is an amusingly loathsome detective/captain. It's clear that they and the rest of the cast are genuinely enjoying their roles, giving their all to create a brilliant, high quality show. I wholeheartedly recommend watching both "The Artful Dodger" and the aforementioned "Dodger"(2022) if you like the world of The Artful Dodger and want something a little more easy-going than the standard Oliver Twist adaptations.
Actually incredible gem of a show. Incredible drama, comedy, mixed in with some decent action. Fantastic job by the actors. And really well directed show.
Really hope they keep going.
This is such a great show, watch it now! 10/10
Absolute belter of a show, with great characters and fizzing storylines, more of the same please!
Sucks they did not renew this show. I guess it was not woke enough or maybe they didn't focus on the gays. Anyway, I guess it's expected that great shows don't get renewed these days.
Amazing season 1. So much fun to watch and entertaining. I really hope the woke progressives in Hollywood don’t stick their crummy hands into the next season and ruin it with gay, trans, and unicorns nonsense.
Surprisingly great show. Would recommend it. And best part, there is no gay or trans agenda being pushed. It’s like watching a show from era before the world turned gay/trans. Just focus on acting, story telling, set production, and entertainment.
This show is superb. The cast. The acting. The story. Everything is simply a fun and satisfying perfection. The Artful Dodger is a beautiful masterpiece.
surpring it's a nice time pass and feel good series.
I put zero expectations and watched it randomly.
Thomas Brodie Sangster was amazing, and the combo alongside Maia Mitchell was just perfect
last episode just about nearly ended me; i loved it
& not to mention David Thewlis was great too
perfect little fun watch
Not sure if this show is flying under everyone's radar; but I really liked the new Hulu Series "The Artful Dodger".
It's the "Sequel" story of one of the main characters from Dicken's Oliver Twist set twenty something years into the future.
Jack Dawkins... (aka The Dodger) has broken out of prison and has become an accomplished surgeon struggling to survive on non existent wages in a town founded as a penal colony in Australia.
The Dodger's past catches up with him when Fagin - the former leader of the Pickpocket Brigands in England lands in the same port where the Dodger practices medicine.
The first season was wildly entertaining! I can't wait for the second!
Hell no! Hell no! Hell no! This is just too corny!!!! NO!!

This is a gem. a very well paced comedy/crime/drama.
Loved the story so far and the actors that bring this characters alive are well chosen. Give this a chance and ignore the low votes given almost 6 months before the show aired.
