[6.7/10] This episode felt like something out of season 1. The moral was very simple -- learn to slow down and not overdo it. The plot was just as straightforward -- Cyborg installs a chip that sets him to “overdrive” and problems ensue. And the situation was low stakes and resolved with something mildly cheap and unearned.
If that weren't enough, this is basically a comedy episode.. I honestly don't mind Teen Titans injecting a little comedy int regular adventures. But ones that are meant to be broad, silly, or otherwise over-the-top tend to be stinkers. This one isn’t that bad, but it’s weaker than it ought to be. Cyborg’s day planner routine, the running gag about him beating Beast Boy at video games, etc. were broad without bringing the yuks.
I’ll confess that I did enjoy the lunacy of Billy Numerous. Maybe it’s just DCAU stalwart Jason Marsen, but a guy who can duplicate himself is the perfect villain foil for a Cyborg who’s hypercharged and running all over the place. The silly country accent was worth a mild laugh, and while the hologram thing comes absolutely out of nowhere, I do like the synergy of Cyborg finding a way to beat his foe while standing still and making the bad guy overextend himself instead.
On the whole, this was a forgettable low light, but one that was mild and light enough not to offend the senses.
