Supergirl in general is the "obvious messagae" show of the Arrowverse. It's the most topical and it sucks at subtlety. They have a narrative and you'd have to be an idiot to miss it. That said they also usually do a pretty good job with making Supergirl interesting if Mary Sue-ish. For instance last episode when she literally broke rank to go fight when trapped in a suit that literally only had enough power to keep her alive but hey she just had to join a fight. You know what though she totally saved one person even though she literally endangered her ability to survive for no reason because Martian Manhunter had to save her when she was getting beat up and yet somehow that turned out to be the right thing™. This episode however is one of the very very few times when Supergirl the show doesn't just take a stand but does so well. This episode captures exactly how the media went wrong with the alt-right. It was not a malicious act it was a series of mistakes where you watch Catco's head honchos struggle with whether to denounce or present the hate group. It shows the hate group (the Sons of Liberty) exploiting the hesitation in the media using legitimate economic concerns to focus general rage on a specific target. This episode really pairs well with The Man of Steel where you see something often ignored traditionally which is the fallout of aliens and superheros fighting all over the city.
The only bad thing about this episode is our new character, whom I will call Oversight until I've been shown she will stick around, is oversight for the DEO and yet doesn't think alien hate groups are of concern because they should be focused on..... other nebulous things that no one mentions. It makes no sense. Aliens are their game. Now that aliens are citizens they should be concerned about future alien uprisings. It's so badly plotted out that she only exists in this episode to say the wrong thing and be a bad guy. Which is the polar opposite of her last episode where she listened to Alex and agreed and supported her actions. For no reason she's the opposite character. For a minute I thought she was going to be Alex's new girlfriend because they were getting along so well.
This episode works so well in part because they didn't write it. They adapted it. They took real life and just adapted it to the Supergirl universe. The problem is in real life this story took years to write and they did it in two or three episodes. They're going to have to come to a conclusion sooner rather than later and that's when the writing will go back to cheesy Kara can do no wrong again. It'll be a shame to watch it leave.
Haha... and my head went “Dracarys”...
Colonel Hayley is really getting on my nerves big time she needs to go and let the sisters just be cause Alex is doing such a great job and why is it that i dont trust Manchester Black at all. What is wrong with Lena like who side is she really on i still cant figure it out James needs to leave her once and for all
I really like this Manchester character. If he is taking it upon himself to get rid of all of the "Children of Liberty" hate group, more power to him! He is making the world a better place by getting rid of all those hateful ignorant jealous people that are a disgrace to the human race.
Wow watching Kara fighting with a dragon will most likely remain as one of the season’s highlight for me. So freaking cool! Happy that they went with a Harry Potter reference instead of that overrated show.
