6.2/10. Maybe my stockholm syndrome has worn off in the month since Rebels wrapped up the first half of its season (with Rogue One serving as the big Star Wars event between the fall and spring half-seasons of the show), but I was pretty nonplussed by this one. A lot of the adventures down on the surface of Geonosis felt like time-filling, and until the show would get into the meat of its themes and plot in the second half of this two-parter.
While it is nice to see Saw Gerrera back in his digital form after his big screen debut this December, and a boon for the show to get Forest Whitaker to reprise the part, the results weren't great. Bridging the gap between Saw's appearance in The Clone Wars and his appearance in Rogue One was tricky, with the amalgam of Whitaker and the Clone Wars character model looking a bit off from either one of them. And Whitaker himself, who is a great actor, didn't necessarily translate well to the world of voice acting either, with Saw's laugh in particular coming off kind of awkward.
To boot, there was a lot of exposition to catch everyone up, and a lot of Ezra asking stupid questions to set up said exposition. Despite that, there was some decent action, between Kanan holding up the bridge for Saw and Rex to cross, to Sabine and Zeb using the deflector shield to keep them from the droid attacks. And Rex and Saw's reunion was a minor thrill as well.
Overall, it was a whole lot of setup without much going for it as an individual episode, but there were some minor redeeming parts here and there.
Excellent return. Welcome back, Rebels!
I like the parallels with clone wars:)
6.5/10 - Promising but not too many developments so far. Being back on Geonosis is interesting though - and quite familiar.
Those Destroyers in the sand were quite unsettling.
"Yeah but he's no Skywalker."
"I heard that." xD
