Netflix's Stranger Things is a critically acclaimed science fiction horror drama television series created by the Duffer Brothers.

As an homage to the 1980s, it's infused with references to the pop culture and films of that time.

This is a list of every movie or tv show that is referenced in or that inspired Stranger Things.

I hadn't updated this in a long while, and now apparently you can't add more than 1000 items to a list without buying Pro. So I guess I'm no longer updating this list.

Watch Droids (1985) and Ewoks (1985) after Episode VI: Return of the Jedi as they feature characters introduced in the last film of the original trilogy. These TV shows are animated and are best to watch with small children.

Watch Rebels (2014) after "Episode IV: A New Hope" to learn more about the conflict between the Rebellion and the Empire and see what happened to some of the characters from the prequel trilogy.

Clone Wars (2003) is a 2D animated series that follows both Jedi and the Clone armies in their battle against the Confederacy, and is known for introducing General Grievous, a four-armed cyborg, and Asajj Ventress, who serves as the main antagonist during the series. Watch this after Episode II: Attack of the Clones.

The Clone Wars (2008) is a 3D rendered series that closely follows Anakin Skywalker and his teenage padawan Ahsoka Tano, as well as other Jedi and clones. Watch this after the original Clone Wars TV show and after Episode II: Attack of the Clones and the Clone Wars animated film, which serves as an introduction to the show.

Star Wars canonical and spin-off stories by release date

Not a huge Star Wars fan, so this list may have some omissions or inaccuracies!

Note: This list is on hiatus! I have no interest in keeping up with Disney's current release schedule!

This list is meant to unite all Star Wars related movies & TV show in the most chronological way possible; Including both Legends (Spin-offs & shows released before April 25, 2014) and Extended Universe. Obviously, video games, books, novels & fan-made contents are not included.

Comments are welcome in order to make this list the most accurate possible.

  • "Star Wars: Clone Wars" (2D Animated TV Show) appears to have a straight forward viewing order. It seems like its right placement would be before the CGI version of the show, to be confirmed.

  • "Star Wars: The Clone Wars" (CGI Animation) chronology is pure chaos; Season Two Episode 16 & Season One Episode 16 are to be seen prior to the movie, for the rest I based myself on Sapitoelgato's list from Reddit: https://www.reddit.com/r/StarWars/comments/35ex94/the_clone_wars_ultimate_episode_order/
I've noticed there's a "Star Wars The Clone Wars: Darth Maul Returns" (2012), apparently it's the last four episodes of Season Four packed alltogether in a DVD so I didn't include it.

  • The Star Wars Holiday Special (1978's TV movie) events occurs after Episode IV

  • "Star Wars: Droids" & "Ewoks" (1985's Animated TV Shows) are really old-school/kitsch/childish, you may want to give a pass on these two.

  • "The Ewok Adventure" & "Ewoks: The Battle for Endor" are two TV movies for kids supposed to happen just before Episode VI.

  • "Star Wars Rebels" is pretty straight forward; Some specials, the first movie, Season One, second movie & Season Two. However, I am not sure yet about the placement of Season Three.

  • "Solo: A Star Wars Story" (2018) occurs somewhere between Episode III and IV, but before Rogue One.

  • "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" (2016) occurs right before Episode IV, it even covers up a tiny bit of it for our sweet pleasure.

  • "Lego Star Wars: The Yoda Chronicles" has been included (right after Episode III), however the latest episode (Clash of the Skywalkers) is missing from Trakt.tv

  • "Lego Star Wars: The Padawan Menace" (2011) is part of The Yoda Chronicles (prior to it)

  • "Lego Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Out" (2012) is part of The Yoda Chronicles (prior to it)

  • "Lego Star Wars: Droid Tales" (TV Show 2015) covers the whole saga (Episode I to VI) through C3PO and R2D2 eyes, but the events are claimed to happen after Episode VI.

  • "Lego Star Wars: The Freemaker Adventures" (TV Show 2011) is set between Episode V and VI. The Trakt.tv entry is misleading though. It's a two seasons TV show with five shorts between the two seasons.

I am willing to include the whole Lego Star Wars franchise but I might need help to do so, here's the list of movies/shows I'd like to include:

  • Lego Star Wars: Revenge of The Brick (2005)
  • Lego Star Wars: The Quest for R2-D2 (2009)
  • Lego Star Wars: Bombad Bounty (2010)

There might also be some movies I don't know about, please do not hesitate to tell me about them (knowing that all fan-made content will not be included).

THIS LIST WILL BE UPDATED PERIODICALLY. (Last update: 2018-06-26)

Movies and TV shows that take me back to my youth. Some were released earlier than the 80s but were staples of my childhood nonetheless.
