[7.6/10] The premise of this one really worked for me. While this and other Spider-Man shows have gone for the Batman/Catwoman-esque “enemies in capes but lovers behind the drapes” routine, I like the twist on this one here, where Talon is a pseudo supervillain by night, but Harry’s girlfriend Cheyenne by day. That puts Peter in a very difficult positions and earns the drama of what he should do as both Peter and Spider-Man.
There’s also some really cool sequences in this one. Spidey and Talon’s opening acrobatic fight is outstanding, with great use of movement from both skyscaper-diving masked adventurers, and some cool interplay between them while it’s going on. The show runs out of tricks at some point, but it’s all pretty enjoyable, even if the show doesn't necessarily seem to have a great grasp on how to escalate the fisticuffs throughout the episode.
The Spidey vs. Talon and Peter worrying about Harry material is both generally well done. The premise does most of the work, but there’s also some good dialogue and scenes about Peter wanting to be a supportive friend, especially when this is the most engaged Harry’s been in something or someone since his father died, but also worrying about what it could do to Harry if it turns out that Cheyenne’s extra curricular activities mean she’s bad news.
My two complaints are that the vocal performance for Cheyenne/Talon isn’t very good and that the episode just kind of ends. There’s something flat in Talon’s delivery that makes a well-written character feel just a step behind. And I guess the implication is that since Talon now knows that Spider-Man knows who she really is, she has to scram, but it feels like her bailing is undermotivated.
Still, what I like about this episode is that it introduces a legitimate dilemma for Peter, and deepens his relationship with Harry, something the show has skimped on up until now. Definitely an enjoyable outing.
