[7.7/10] A good outing for the show after the prior missteps. The episode does a nice job of establishing the Green Goblin as a threat and creating a suitable misdirect as to his identity. The way Greenie gets revenge on Norman Osbourne’s enemies from the Oscorp board not only creates a nice structure and threat for Spider-Man to unravel, but it makes it plausible that Harry is behind it making the reveal it’s Norman solid, if predictable.
The Green Goblin himself is a slightly better Joker riff than Hobgoblin, despite the lack of Mark Hamill this time, if only because the lunacy of making a statue of justice with your green face on it and the “trial” aspect had some light Killing Joke vibes. There’s enough tension and looming threats to his insane vendetta to make things work.
I’m less enamored, as usual, with the romantic pairings here, but I like the hints that there’s something darker in Harry, both as a fake out for the main mystery and planting seeds for things to come. And Felicia more clearly directing her affections at Spider-Man has some interesting places to take things.
Overall, one of the more complete and filled-in stories the show has done so far.
