[5.9/10] This is another episode that stumbled around one good joke and/or good observation, but never really built on it. There’s something amusing and trenchant about the observation that a lot of people can’t make it through the holidays without some sort of inebriation, and that we treat anyone trying to speak out about it as acting like a buzzkill. But man, I’m right tired of the Tegridy stuff, and this episode just drove that observation into the ground (no pun intended).
There’s a few good bits about “Xmas spirits” and “farm to nostril”, but otherwise this felt like it should have been a five-minute sketch rather than a full-length episode. The meta humor about not wanting to just repackage old material for an Xmas special is worth a chuckle, but nothing the show hasn’t done before and done better. Mostly, I was just bored with this one.
In truth, this has been a pretty weak season. The truth is that before South Park decided to go all-in on serialization, it had been creatively stagnant for a long time. You can see the show still trying to stretch its wings here, switching up to Tegridy, giving us stories about Sheila and PC Principal and Scott Malkinson. But maybe there’s just not much left in the tank after twenty-three years. That’s no crime, and the show is still mostly watchable, but maybe it's time for South Park to hang up its dirty mittens.
I can't believe this whole episode was a setup for the Santa Coke punchline
Lost my shit when they did the "The City Part of Town" call-back.
wow wow won the lottery

Having Jesus promote cocain must be one of the most South Park things this show has done in a long time.
