I don't get why this show gets so much hatred. I watched all the episodes and I found them amazing. I don't give a damn about the book. If it were identical to the book as a minority of bookworms want, there would be no reason to watch it. People should stop comparing, and start appreciating it as a spin-off.

The show starts cheesy but with each episode the quality really improves. There are book references which I appreciate. And yes I'm a huge book fan but able to separate the show from the book. Over all it's a good, fun show and I'll recommend giving it a chance.

loading replies

Amazing show, great actors, don't listen to the negative reviews and give the show a chance. Improves a lot after episode 2, though I already liked it from the get go. Differs somewhat from the books, but the overall plot is there, and the characters are way more fleshed out than that they were in the books. It's all great.

the show/acting gets better and better every episode! I love this show and I also love the books. I even prefer some of the changes on the show over the book storylines. Don't give up just because the first couple episodes have "bad acting"- trust me it's worth watching :)

loading replies

Starts off pretty meh to be honest. The main character did not hook me in right away it seemed very YA - which is understandable because it was adapted from the book series. This is an example of a show that just gets better with time though. I didn't get hooked until the Malec plot started to develop (around episode 4).
The acting, special effects, and story line really pick up in season 2 and 3 and the whole series aged up as it started to get it's legs.
Book fans may not like it right away because it's an adaptation and not a replica, but that's what gives the show room to grow and keep you on your toes.

loading replies

I was one of those people who liked the movie adaptation, without actually ever reading the books.
The series follows the books more, but it is more meant to be based on the books but still be it's own thing. Kind of like an alternative universe, if you might. The series starts out a bit rocky with obviously low budget, but it has lots of heart. Once we wade through the drama with Clary, it is pretty enjoyable. For season 2 they got a bigger budget and the overall quality becomes much better. By the end of season 2 the writing, the effects and the whole show improves a lot. It is worth sticking around if you like supernatural stuff with actual lgbtqia+ and poc representation - who aren't just side characters. The characters have really nice and well built friendships and relationships.

I never expected this to happen but this is my absolute favorite show, and I couldn't be happier about the changes from the books, which I read when I was a teenager but aren't too fond of. Unlike the books or the movie, the characters are all well-rounded and very likable, and everyone gets interesting storylines instead of it being just about Clary and Jace. The downworlder racism allegory is also handled better. If you're into this kind of thing but didn't care for the first few episodes, it gets a lot better in episode 4 and continues to improve. The acting gets significantly better as the first season goes on, and in season 2, the CGI, makeup, sets, etc. get a fantastic upgrade and the cheesy aspect disappears. All around a super fun show to watch.

I expected this to be bad from the beginning, but I didn't want to judge it without first giving it a chance. I'm two episodes in and every second of my experience watching this felt like a strange experiment meant to diminish my brain cells. There are plenty of shows out there that are downright bad, but can still be enjoyed while laughing at them. Shadowhunters doesn't even get that far. The acting, the costumes, the writing, the horrible dialogue... none of it is worth the time. With that said, I'll probably keep watching it because I'm nothing if not a masochist.

I love this show to bits! I am a big fan of fantasy and supernatural genres and this does not disappoint. It certainly filled the gap since the end of Vampire Diaries and Twilight, but also adds other elements into the mix. Character development is strong and on-going. The gay relationship between Alec and Magnus is so lovely! I am really pro LGBT.

loading replies

i love this show , it's the best show

loading replies

I can only comment on mid-way through the series but I did not expect to enjoy it as much as I do. I started watching as something in the background but now I feel like I look forward to the episodes. It's a teen/young adult series and would recommend as light-viewing or if you're in the targeted audience.

This show would be infinitely more enjoyable if Clary took it down a notch. Season one was filled with her impulsive actions and clouded judgment limiting any understanding of ramifications of her actions outside of her personal experience. She's crying out and doing anything to get her mom back but completely unreasonable when it comes to how it affects anyone but herself.

Season two I may have become slightly more immune/used to it, but season two improved overall and could become much more invested.

This is the best show there has ever been. This cast and crew can never be outdone. Love always!

I love this show. It's my favorite.

Okay I admit the first season pretty much sucks and I was considering ditching the show after sticking through that one season, but luckily I didn't. The second season made this show one of my absolut favorites. I'm desperately waiting for a new episode every week.
so if your considering watching this, either stick through a bad first season or just jump right to the second (in which case you'll probably have some trouble understanding everything though)

Don’t talk to me. I only watched this for Alec and Magnus they’re my life. The rest was pretty good too ;)

loading replies

Like the book series, the TV show became a massive guilty pleasure for me.No part of me thought this show was amazing but it was an enjoyable watch.

loading replies

OMG I binged watched this show so fast literally it took me a week from begining to end.
I was soooo hooked.
Tho main actress is imo not a good choice, the rest of the acters were amazing!
Jace, the eyes and the smile, the smirky comments, the love between Alec and Magnos.
the smartass best actor on the show who playes Simon!!!:heart_eyes:

And I need to shout out to the creators of the show putting all sort of sexual identities... even a less common on tv shows a-sexuality...

Every twist and turn on this show kept me awake for this binging week.

One thing is that I HATED THE FINEL 3 MINUTES.
If you go happy ending all the time, do it  don't break my Jace boy's heart like that for me to watch lol

I really need Izzy's long-lasting lipstick. Any ideas which brand she may be using?

loading replies

This is my all time favourite, so sad it's been cancelled

loading replies

This is probably the worst show on my watch list. I get so much secondhand embarrassment sometimes I can't even watch it directly so I let it play in the background while I lie on the floor in fetal position asking myself why, why am I not dropping this show.

Anyway I love this show so excited for s03.

loading replies

If they don’t cancel this I’ll be so disappointed Cassandra Clares books didn’t deserve this trash

loading replies

Simply bad. Nothing like the books, acting is so bad.

loading replies

This show is like a slutty awful version of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Compared to this the movie is an Oscar winner. i never had a tv show that made me feel so sick, it was cliche after cliche, super bad acting, bad effects, bad casting, bad characters, bad script, bad costumes. I was really looking forward for this show since i kinda enjoyed the movie and i liked the story of the books but this is just down awful.

Katherine McNamara is the perfect example of an "eycandy" for the masses.
she looks good but can´t act. Oh well, she can act.. she´s just bad at it.

loading replies

first 10 min already nothing like the books. What is so hard about following the books for once..

loading replies

doesn't seem bad but either good. hope this would be better than the movie but i don't know

loading replies

After a straight-up awful first couple of episodes, many of the actors finally dig their teeth into their roles and the show decides to completely do away with a lot of the worse parts of the source material.

By the end of the season, the ensemble nature of the show versus the books/movie helps it immensely, as the more interesting plotlines/better actors lie in characters that aren't as deeply explored in the source material. Dialogue is still hokey, and a few of the main and recurring actors are cringeworthy to watch (especially the villains), but it finds a way to embrace its own ridiculousness and become a solid guilty pleasure. If there are parts of the show you've heard about that are appealing to you, and/or you're looking for a genuinely kind of bats**t, mixed-bag guilty pleasure that takes some at-times-hilarious risks, this show may be for you.

The show is cool. Stop comparing it to the books, it would be boring if it would be absolutely the same as books

Please don't discontinue this show my wife loves it.

loading replies

The first 6/7 episodes has the most terrible acting, line delivery and the writing is so cliché.

After that though it got better, or maybe I got used to it, I don't know, either way, I like it better now,
but it still makes me cringe at least 5 times per episode(compared to every 20 seconds for the first few episodes).

The show starts cheesy but with each episode the quality really improves. There are book references which I appreciate. And yes I'm a huge book fan but able to separate the show from the book. Over all it's a good, fun show and I'll recommend giving it a chance.

The only thing this show accomplished is wasting my time.

I went into the pilot cold as I haven't seen the movie or read the book. I'm sure there's some interesting lore behind it but this just felt like every other magical tween show that's been made in recent years. They're overdone and rarely done well. Although it wasn't all bad; Harry Shum Jr. in eyeliner is a revelation.

loading replies

The movie was OKish. But this is just bad. Not sure why I even bothered watching the pilot.

Not very good at character development and some pretty wooden acting at the start, but just keep watching the pretty boys. I think that season 2 is actually getting better.

loading replies

Bottom-shelf junk that would still be pretty bad even if it were a student film project. No wonder ABC Family rebranded as FreeForm -- best to distance the ABC network name as far away from junk like this as possible.

I enjoyed the movie and liked the books, but the acting in this show is so... meh. But because aforementioned likes, I am reluctant t give up on the show completely, because Magnus Bane is simply amazing.

loading replies

Just watched the first two episodes and I can safely say I won't be watching any more. That was terrible and I have so many questions about the decisions made by the producers. Why is Isabelle dressed so provocatively? Why does she have a random accent when no one else does? Why are the actors all so terrible (especially Alec)?

loading replies

As a fan of these books I'm deeply disappointed. I tried to watch these series 3 time and I left it unwatched again I could watch it till 5.episode. Actors beautiful/handsome but their acting horrible it's so stupidly acted. This TV show is suitable for young teenagers that's why I couldn't watch it my eyes were bleeding. But I'm still fan of these books so I reccomend instead of watching this try to read books they are fun you wrong get bored in sure

Shadowhunters:curly_loop: is an amazing show. I totally recommend people to watch it, its dramatic and so heartwarming.

loading replies

I loved the movie and the books but the first seasoned as a dragg to watch. I do must say after that first season the acting got better and I started enjoying watching it a lot

loading replies

Too many complain about S1 being overacrting *overacting/bad acting etc I know clary was a bit annoying at first but never felt any were ott as I feel they were more inezxperienced actors still learning but doing well. If you want to know what ott/bad acting is then watch B movies or old horrors those are OTT/bad acting in truth yet you can still enjoy them so why not this show?. what O I would call OTT/Bad acting is from today's talentless woke diversity picks for roles - all with same wooden look, /haircut/dyed purple/blue, one tone voice or scrreeching out lectures to all, angry about their privileged childhoods & hating on their Fathers or Adults with exagerated anger/crazy faces. Everything prewoke is higher quality.

After the first episodes of Shadowhunters, I wouldn't have thought I would end up giving this series a decent score. The beginning, or more likely the whole first season is filled with bad acting, extremely silly-looking runes, and so much cringe. But I decided to stick around, and from the second half of the second season, this is actually a decent series. The actors and their characters got more and more refined, the runes were thankfully re-drawn each season (+Izzy's boob rune finally crawled a bit upwards for S3), and I shipped Alec and Magnus so hard, they totally stole the show. One of the characters that annoyed me the most at the beginning, Magnus, and especially his over-acting actually became one of my favorites by the end. I was also content with the finale. Of course, this is a teenage fantasy series, so as long as one treats it like that, it is a good watch.

loading replies

The story doesn't seem to be bad but the acting and script are so forced it makes me cringe :grimacing:

loading replies

for me the Kathrine McNamara girl is not a good actress. her facial expressions are awful. i don't know if I should blame the script they wrote for her or she is just this bad. in my Episode 5 of Season 1. she is all I hate about this series.

loading replies

I start watching the series after the movie, but it s nothing compare to the movie, I really didn't like the actors and find the serie a little bit cheese

loading replies

it won't let me watch it I rlly want to tho

I really enjoyed this show. I wish it had been continued up to at least the 9th season. People critiqued it for not being similar to the book but it was amazing. It will always be on my favorite TV shows list. I also wish Clary had a better ending. Everyone ended up happy except for her. That was not fair! Thanks and congratulations to all actors, actresses, and everyone who has been directly or indirectly part of it, for making such an amazing show.

I'm facinated. the actors are mostly horrible. Mcnamara anyone? but I still kinda like that Show.

the books are really, I think most people dont read anymore :-/

This was a bad idea from the start. The casting is not entirely bad but c'mon any of the actors give a respectable performance. And everything is so rushed and poorly done.

this shows is bad. you can't say other thing even if you liked the books or the movie.

Why is the show's name in Spanish? I see it as "Cazadores de Sombras".

I didn't like. It's so bad. I think that all the cast could be more... passionate with yours character. I miss that on this show

loading replies

Clary is so annoying!! I just can't!

loading replies

If you've seen the movie then don't bother with this show. You'll know everything that is going to happen, they follow the movie very closely and nothing seems original. Wish they would of at least tried taking a different direction could of been a good show with just a little bit of creativity.

loading replies

2 eps in, massive let down. However I will probably watch it until the end. The movie compared to this was way better.

loading replies

I don't quite know what to make of the series, given the "tween" stars that look to be about 29 years old, the fanfic quality of the source books (the mortal instruments) , and the forgettable movie adaptation of "City of Bones". Seems to have the stars of Maze Runner / Vampire Academy, so it might live up to the reputation of the fanfic based author, who coined the use of "draco in leather pants".

Watch any other movie to TV show remake (there's at least 5 so far) in 2016
