RNC Headquarters Cold Open: 8/10 - not super laugh out loud funny but good for a cold open since I find the cold opens to be dull sometimes, I quite liked the ending done by Kristen who gave the LFNY. She made for a very funny cold open.
Monologue by Amy Poehler: 10/10 Her confidence in her monologue was great and I loved her outfit right away. Her jokes were very funny and the pacing was great overall. She did something quite unique with the monologue here which was really enjoyable and fun to watch. Cameos from Justin Timberlake, Rachel Dratch, Tina Fey & Jimmy Fallon and Kenan as Lorne were all great and very funny additions.
Bronx Beat: 9/10 Another cameo appearance, this time it's Maya Rudolph! Amy and Maya were very funny throughout and I loved the characters they played. They did a very good job with their characters. Funny appearance from Katy Perry as well.
Bosley Hair Restoration: 8.5/10 Wasn't super funny at first but the wigs made the sketch what it is. Pretty funny little commercial bit.
Maternity Matters: 10/10 Quite a considerable amount of screentime for Vanessa Bayer already in this episode. Parody of other pregnancy based shows - Fred Armisen is very funny here as usual. I was expecting this sketch to be a bit on the meh side of things but Fred really carried it and made it great. Thought we were already getting a Vanessa fronted sketch but this was not the case.
Mosque at Ground Zero: 5/10 Vanessa again! She's been getting a lot of screentime for this only being her first episode which is pretty impressive. Ending punchline was mildly funny but this sketch wasn't great at all.
Musical Guest performance - Katy Perry, California Gurls: 8/10 Love the stage and outfits for this one! I really like it when the performances are more than just the performer standing there with not much going on. Unfortunately, Katy does sound a bit off here, the sound quality is a bit wack which I find happens with quite a few performances. This was a fun one but not as phenomenal as I expected. It started to sound like they were playing her vocals from the track which was drowning her out?
Weekend Update with Seth Meyers: 9/10 Funny right off the bat! Seth is incredibly funny here. Love that they brought back "Really?!" since Amy is hosting as well, love that she stayed throughout the rest of update too. Jay Pharoah was very funny as Will Smith and this was a great Weekend Update. Some jokes that didn't really land with me but a lot of really solid ones too. Seth was much more funny than Amy. Fred + David Paterson were good guest appearances too, their bit was really good and a little unexpected which is fun.
The Lean Years: 8.5/10 Very funny sketch. Not remarkable but very funny.
SNL Digital Short: Boogerman: 7/10 Another usage of Katy Perry in a sketch for this episode, this time in the Digital Short. Not my favorite Digital Short but still pretty funny, the ending punchline is what really made it.
Ladies Who Lunch: 8/10 Even more Vanessa in this episode! Audience was pretty quiet during some parts of this one which was a bit of a shock, this was a really funny sketch with some great little jokes in it. Really enjoyable.
Musical Guest performance - Katy Perry, Teenage Dream: 8.5/10 I really like the overall vibe that Katy is bringing! Her voice sounds a bit weak in spots but she has a very fun energy throughout her performances. Really love her outfits for both segments. They did the thing with the track with her vocals again it sounded like which was quite strange.
Actor II Actor: 10/10 So simple but so effectively funny. The little scream into the mic from Justin is priceless.
The Even More Expendables Commercial: 10/10 Hilarious celebrity impressions and I love how off the walls this one got
