A good improvement over the first episode. More investigation, more character. Perry himself didn't come off as quite as unpleasant and the flashbacks to his war days were brutal and informed a lot of where his head space is at. Great material for E.B. and I really like Officer Drake. Tatiana Maslany may have stolen this episode, though, just a high class and mesmerising performance throughout.
Having only seen the first two episodes, my uninformed prediction is that the person behind the kidnapping, and their motive, will be Sister Alice McKeegan, trying to keep power and inheritance from being bled away to her half-brother or his baby -- that's also how I took her outburst in church, where she implored the powers that be to punish the devil (the parents) .
