Perry Mason 2020

If you are hoping this series will be like Raymond Burr's 1957 PERRY MASON, then release that expectation. This is an HBO production, so you can expect nudity, crude language, politically corrected characters and violence. What you will also find is some very talented actors giving convincing performances. Matthew Rhys portrays an evolving character, slowly breaking free from PTSD. I cringed when I heard that :flag_ca:Tatiana Maslany's character was going to be an Aimee Semple McPherson copy, but I have to give credit to Tatiana, she didn't settle for disparaging stereotype but, unsurprisingly, gave a nuanced performance of a young woman caught in extraordinary circumstances. BRAVO. In essence this first season is an origin story for the character of PERRY MASON. It begins in one place and ends with Perry Mason, lawyer. I enjoyed it and will look forward to the second season. I give it an 8 (great) out of 10. [Crime Drama]

Okay so let's start by saying I absolutely love this program there's action horror suspense and adventure the show is very fast moving and is perfect during the pandemic however I personally don't recommend it for kids I mean sex nudity sexual nudity it's all fair game but for anyone who can handle it it's fantastic

I'm not sure that the youngins these days will enjoy this show much, but pretty sure us boomers will find it very enjoyable.

When I first saw the trailer I couldn't understand why they would make this a period piece. But quickly found out why. This series is essentially a pre-series. It shows us just how and why our beloved Perry Mason became a lawyer.

This is not the Perry Mason that boomers grew up with, this is a much grittier, adult version.

Can't wait for season 2 to arrive.

Tuned in apprehensively & was nicely surprised by the format & premise. It’s one of those series where you can’t really figure out why you’re so compelled to binge. I mean, really, what is going on? Why do I care? But you just do.

A tad too meandering in the end, with non-essential bits of storyline. A bit bloated for the central plot. It was well crafted period piece with pitch perfect acting. The story at the centre became so long in the exposure that found myself suspecting that the stories were intended to be two films instead of two series, and were expanded to create a serial. Probably not true, but it felt like it. A potboiler indeed.

If I hadn't grown up watching Perry Mason (lots of times with Mom) and loving Perry, Della and Paul I might be able to enjoy this version. But I just don't like Perry nor Della. Paul is okay. I like that he's a family man in this version. I just can't get into it.

The setting is amazing. My father was born in 1931. This reminds me of Grandpa and Grandma's. Water from an outside pump and an old well and the 2 seater outhouse. Chickens and fruit trees and lots of berry bushes. Grandma was always canning something. They had 3 garden patches. The old smoke house and cellar (snakes and bugs a plenty). Lots of kitties.

For me it's stepping back in time to my childhood and my parents childhood. But that can't change the fact I don't like Perry nor Della. This paradox makes me very sad.

This is THE BEST series you’re not watching right now. Writing, acting, directing, cinematography, all of it — top shelf. Don’t get hung up on any preconceived notions you may have about the character or the series, because this is a gripping and exceptionally well-done show.

Super acting, great period setting, and solid if somewhat slow plot pacing.

It's nice to watch a well written and acted show these days. Ideally, the script would have been a little more engaging, I worry it's a bit too slow to have the broad appeal needed to get renewed.

Bravo to the director and cast for great character portrayals across the board.

Reminds me of a film noir version of Goliath. A bit slow but overall a good show with a great cast.

I understand that we are in a new era and have to accommodate everyone, but Della Street a lesbian(?) and Paul Drake and African American . While I don't mind this, it does jar with my ongoing enjoyment of the original series. It is well developed and an interesting insight into the beginnings of the life of Perry Mason et al. The whole cast do a very good job at recreating this 'period piece' in this day and age of Marvel superheroes and other more generation appropriate TV shows, which I don't watch.

Great acting, solid plot that doesn’t try and take away from the setting

8/10 great
I’ve only just started watching the show and three episodes in on season 1, but this show just reeks of class and entertainment…..
Every single part from acting, lighting, effects, scripts to direction say we went all out on this, we gave it our all.
It’s not flashy it doesn’t scream at you “LOOK AT ME” it has depth that you just sink into and soak up, I’m hoping by the end of season 1 I can up my score to 10/10 if the storyline pans out…..

P.s the only draw back the show has is it’s name!!!
Because people will instantly think of the 1950’s show and will be put of by that….

It's a pretty good show in my opinion, it feel well-made and well written. It has a few twists from the usual mystery/investigation/trial shows or movies.
However I found it a bit boring at times but maybe it was because I watched all episodes in a row.
Anyway, I think there is a good chance most viewers will enjoy this series.

This was a mixed bag for me. Overall deserves a good experience, but I didn't feel fully satisfied by the time it ended. The mystery took some time to get compelling, and the ending felt like it didn't bring some of the characters to a satisfying conclusion. Some, however, did, and the acting overall was excellent. Too much sex and nudity, but that seems to be the norm these days, especially on HBO. What really rubbed me the wrong way was the jazz soundtrack. I love jazz, and I know it was era-appropriate, but it just clashed with the mood of the show. There were some serious theatrical tracks that fit really well, and then in a somber and dark show a weirdly upbeat and slightly flamboyant jazz would kick in. It always felt a bit jolting, with the exception of the "resurrection getaway" scene.

Overall good show, but just weird weak points and I don't feel ready to recommend it to anyone.

okay so let's say I hadn't had much of a idea of what this was going to be like but I'll say I am hugely Impressed with what this show offers a new identify to the man we know and love so much fun to watch good plot good action and perfect humor and acting is fanominal however I personally don't recommend it to fans of the older program cause mister Mason has completely changed as has the program itself lots of nudity explicit sexual content and very bloody violence sweating is bad too but most people who are fans would probably least appreciate the chance of perry himself he really doesn't care about the customer he's working with and you can sure tell it but however it's a perfect show for those willing to accept the new way of doing things
