Season 2

In the first season the characters gor to know each other. There they already do, understand each other, and work well together, even if everybody still has secrets at the beginning if the season.

Sir Malcolm is less interesting than in the first season, but it's normal as the story is not centered on him and his daughter anymore. A little change of character for his romance with Madame Kali, specially when his reaction to his wife's death. But his only real scene is in the last episode when haunted by his wife and children.. Otherwise Timothy Dalton is really under used.

Vanessa is the main character and story of the season as the baddies are out to get her. Eva Green is as stunning as ever even if she does not have the incredible possession scenes of the first season.

Ethan is the more interesting character of the season. Tracked by the police and still wanted in America, developping a new friendship with Sembene, a new love with Vanessa. We finally get to see the werewolf, and when he finally revealed his secret, he kills Sembene which sets him up for the most potential in next season (the guilt, leaving Vanessa behind, wanting to be executed and finally sent back to America) though probably with less interaction with others characters. Too bad we don't get to see him interact with Lily which would have brought interesting situations.

Victor, apart for his small love story with Lily, does nothing of the season. So apart from creating Lily in the first episode, he brings nothing to the story. In the last episode he becomes a total junkie which leads to his only great scene when meeting with Dorian and Lily.

The creature has his life on the side, his story is ok but with minimal interactions with the other characters. He still threatens Victor but seem to rapidly lose interest in his bride despite it being his main focus during first season. His encounters with Vanessa could have led to something interesting but even if Victor realizes it, this thread is left unexploited and seems unlikely to be in season 3. He seems even more likely to be completely separated from the other characters in next season so even if from the begining you wonder what it would be like to have him hunting demons with the Scooby gang, it will likely never happen.

Sembene is as under exploited as in the last season. Too bad, there would probably be a lot to be said. The beginning of his strengthened friendship with Ethan was interesting, but he dies, so that ends there.

Dorian is 100% useless. We get to see the portrait though. His final scene is great though, and leaves some hope that he will be more interesting next season. Are Dorian and Lily gonna be the big bads of season 3 ?

Brona/Lily has an interesting coming to terms with her new situation, different from both Proteus and the creature. Little impact on the main story and characters though. Maybe next season ?

All in all, the characters benig already established, and the big bad being less abstract than in season 1, the main story was more interesting. But for the same rason, the side characters having already been intrpduced, it's a little disapointing when their stories do not link to the main characters in a meaningful way and does not bring anything to the main story.

Otherwise It's still beautiful, with great atmosphere, scenery, costumes. Fantastic actors, specially Eva Green, as usual, and Rory Kinnear who brings all the interest of the creature as his storyline is severely lacking.
