It feels like the creators of Nightflyers were trying too hard to create something unique which sadly resulted in a mishmash of different themes/concepts that didn't really work well with each other imho. While the first few episodes were quite promising, the show slowly disintegrated into singular fragments. Towards the end, it was just too much of everything and it often felt like there were parts missing inbetween episodes, as if they cut out several scenes.
One could argue that the way the last few episodes are constructed, it mirrors the emotional state of the crew - but it also takes away from the experience. I can fully understand why some viewers felt confused, the writers could have done a much better job with the material at hand imho since the entire premise has a lot of potential. But with the final episode, I'm not sure what else there is to tell since they have basically used up any possible twist material already.
Overall, the show does provide food for thought regarding its main theme but sadly doesn't offer many answers or insights and only scratches the surface regarding the various themes/concepts it presents. Thus, it doesn't bring anything new to the table thematically and even with their attempt of a different approach, Nightflyers disappoints with shallowness.
Do they not vet these people before they go into space? One seriously damaged crew. Quite a good show though. Enjoyed it. Worth a watch.
I hope there is another season and it starts to make sense. Let's tell a good story and not try to be the next lost.
Pretty good. From the mind of George R.R. Martin (as yet another new book/series, like the Game of Thrones Prequel book just released, instead of actually finishing Game of Thrones!).
"Event Horizon" (or "Cloverfield Paradox") meets "Interstellar".
I went against my better judgment and continued onto episode 2, then 3, and so on until episode 6. Finally regained my sanity as 7 was about to start and thought... what the hell am I doing watching this crap!!! Complete nonsense like the cast were making it up as they were going along.
Wow, that ending was an epic thrill of sour cheese.
It's got plot holes you could pilot a colony ship through, but it did scratch the Event Horizon itch for me. I thought the cast were overall good and the production design clearly had a lot of effort put into it, so it's a shame the writing wasn't up to par. I liked most of the characters enough that I'd watch another season, with the hope that the writing is less of a mess. As a standalone series, it could have been so much more than it was, and although I enjoyed it I also found myself exercising a lot of forgiveness.
What a bunch of nonsense! Don’t waste your time, I regret having wasted mine!
Can't wait to watch this, looks good from the ads
BTW don’t bother with this show. Weak plot. Piss poor writing. Terrible edit job. Broken story line. And the last 2 episodes won’t make sense. Save your time & go watch something else.
Zzzzzzzzz.... Looks more like an insane asylum in space than spaceship on a mission.
For the likes of me I can't find one sane pearson on that ship, and not in a good way.
It looks like everyone is acting in their own solo show,
and then someone took all the pieces and made Nightflyers.
This could have been a pretty decent series but it’s got, for me at least, one big problem - you just don’t care for any of the characters so it’s hard to get invested in this show. Combine this with mediocre plot and you got another series canceled by SyFy.
Everything is going wrong, because from the beginning they kept moving forward knowing that everything would go wrong.
- bad orbit exit? that's because there is a spirit in the computer system and the captain knows, but let's move on.
- the Ls are not ok? they knew there was a risk to put 2 Ls in the same room from the start.
- a guy is crazy? he just saw his girlfriend and his child die before his eyes and nobody cares
the show was rightly canceled
TERRIBLE writing, terrible direction. Those poor actors, they tried but this story was just awful.
The show is boring, it has some mystery but it's not worth the time. I feel bad for Thale though, he actually was the only character that I liked and cared about, so I would like to know a bit more about him. Oh well, another one for my dropped list.
I'm equal parts intrigued and confused and… not sure if I really like or really hate it, towards the end. Like the first half or so I enjoyed pretty much, but towards the end, the whole thing starts to fray and drift off more into the incoherent "weird". Still like most of the characters, acting and general feeling of it, but it just stops making any sense after a while. But I do like weird and confusing things from time to time, so I guess I still like it.
I just finished watching and I don’t really know what happened. I don’t understand 80% of the thing. Too many why’s in my mind. Is there any site to read about this or this is just what the book tells? I feel that it is not ended anyway.
Ok this show is dumb & stupid. I don’t understand what is happening in this show. Plot makes no sense.
A waste of time, many borrowed concepts from other sci-fi stories, but terribly written.

More interesting as Origin {2018), but just as bad.
Series is really good... well so far it is!
