That was actually a pretty good first episode
A solid introduction to the series. Man I just gotta say the artstyle and animation is beautiful, gives of this real-whisical children's book atmosphere and sort of reminds me of witch-hat atelier and I am loving it. Also, I'm lookign forward to learning more about this protagonist, Rudeus, this formerly jobless recluse who lived a pathetic life which he didnt care for, to being reincarnated into this fantasy world with magic and a real future for him, with a loving family and him being skilled at magic (with him using incantationless and intermiediate level magic from a yougn age). Also, i hope this show expands more on why Rudeus seemed so petrified by going outside, with him wanting to stay by Pauls side instead of going out to train with Roxy (the mage hired to train Rudues after Rudeus showed his parents his magical-proficiency), I assume is has to deal with some emotional trauma from his past life as a 34yr old recluse. Looks like this show is going to focus alot on Rudeus' redemption of himself, doing everything he failed to do in his past life and improving himself as a person, with him now being given a brand new life in a whole new world. I also really enjoyed learning the basics of the world's magic system to as Rudues did. And man did that ending music slap.
Without the obviously inferior appearance of the CGI, this would have been perfect.
the way they cut to the sex scene outta nowhere XD. Not sure I like the pervy main character at all tho....
I loved this premiere episode. The animation and art style was so beautiful, giving off a children's fantasy story book feel with it's whimsical atmosphere. I especially loved the camera panning around Rudeus during his magic spells; because, those moments were just so well-animated.
Regarding the story, I'm looking forward to seeing Rudeus begin a redemption arc with this second chance at life. The feeling of believing that "if only you had another chance, you would avoid the mistakes you made in life" is very relatable, and I'm excited to see what Rudeus does with this second life.
Also, I'm glad that Rudeus' past life will actually be relevant to the story, both with his sense of determination to live a good life stemming from regrets during his past life, and with how traumatic memories from his past life are currently affecting him (with his aversion to going outside likely stemming from bad memories during his old life). For the progenitor of most isekais, this show surprisingly avoids the shitty tropes of most modern isekais.
I'm glad the show actually showed Rudeus progressing slowly into learning this new culture and world, and the magic system. Too many isekais just skip this aspect of living in a new world, and this slow progress shown by Mushoku really makes it feel like I'm on this journey with him, and makes Rudeus feel like a real person.
The magic system is interesting enough, with it being divided into different classes and levels of mastery. Although I doubt magic can be too powerful compared to swordsmanship given how sword-fighting isn't a dead practice in this world. I'm looking forward to seeing how fights between mages and swordsmen, and amongst mages of different classes are executed throughout the series.
I'm also liking the new characters we've been introduced to in this parallel world, hopefully Roxy and Rudeus' family are given more depth throughout the show, and don't just serve as character progression points for Rudeus.
The ending song was also nice listening too, again giving us the fantasy world feeling that permeates throughout this show.
