Season one - which is really like two seasons - is a gem. The chemistry between actors must be outstanding. Haas is energetic. Mädel effortlessly transforms from Ernie (Stromberg himself has a cameo in this season btw) to Bär while keeping some of his most interesting quirks.
Locations are interesting. But that's not a novelty. Shows like Hubert and Staller capitalize on the bucolic rural areas too. But the jokes are build upon keen and respect observation of life in NRW's unknown backcountry. Sometimes jokes are subtle. Sometimes jokes are hilariously silly. But they are almost always well executed.
In essence, it's just another of these ubiquitous comedy crime shows. This is however perhaps the best first season any of those shows ever had.
