7.0/10. Another pretty messed up episode. There's something interesting about matching up Clay's mommy issues with Miss Censordoll's barrenness issues as a premise, but the decision to use the whole egg-obsession and a mayoral race to dramatize that came off as kind of weird, especially the psycho-sexual fixation on emerging from a chicken that was displayed as dream-like imagery. The reveal that Clay's the mayor of Moralton also came off kind of odd, but this has never been a show super focused on continuity.
That said, the part that I liked most about this episode was how it continued Orel's character development post-hunting accident. He's taken the idea of finding nothing as a sign of hope and a chance to rebuild to heart, and the way he's dismissive of his dad while still keeping more of his chipper attitude is nice to see. When the episode focuses on Orel's relationship with Clay, including when Clay does the whole "people don't say what they mean" and Orel throws it back at him when Clay apologizes for shooting him, there's some real feeling there. But when it focuses on Clay and Miss Censordoll (who in a subtle jab, is revealed to have the initials "FCC") and their complimentary hangups, the episode sort of sputters out and just takes a left turn into (intentionally) gross weirdness.
